Maybe we need to make a few more things here. Maybe start with steel, computer chips and pharmaceuticals.

@horace said in Violent crime and politics.: @jolly said in Violent crime and politics.: As police across the country are leaving cities in droves and it becomes harder to recruit new officers, To what extent is this going on? Clearly, white people entering the police force these days are doing so with the understanding that they'll get figuratively spit on for being in their profession, so it must be going on to a meaningful extent. NYPD had a 75% increase in cops quitting the force or retiring, 2020 vs. 2019. Denver had a 61% increase. Chicago cops are retiring at twice the rate if the previous year. Portland had a record number of cops retire. Seattle had the most cops leave in a decade. Most of the cops leaving the force across the nation, tend to be retirements or early retirements. But they sre retiring in droves.

OK, I'm not going to waste the electrons and seconds by wading through that piece. I'll simply say, "What the actual fuck are they talking about?" Or, "Global cooling, er... warming Climate change, is there anything it can't do?"

I did not expect social media to die this fast. We used to laugh at this for very different reasons. I’m wondering if I should be scared.

Life is pointless. That’s not okay. I show that. I argue that a point is a valued end and that, as agents, it makes sense for us to want our efforts and enterprises to have a point. Valued ends provide justifying reasons for our acts, efforts, and projects. I further argue that ends lie separate from the acts and enterprises for which they provide a point. Since there can be no end external to one’s entire life since one’s life includes all of one’s ends, leading and living one’s life as a whole cannot have a point. Finally, I argue that since we live our lives and structure our living-a-human-life efforts both in parts and as a whole, it is fitting to be sad to recognize that leading and living a life is pointless. My discussion helps make sense of the literature that frequently talks around this topic but often does so vaguely and indirectly. . . Get a job already. How old is this person?

@lufins-dad said in Where's Joe?: Reaction? He’s not Orange. Those that voted against Trump got what they wanted. Hell, they could have run a Walt Disney’s frozen head and the vote totals would likely be the same. Just like the the 2016 election only in reverse.

@doctor-phibes said in Where's the Beef?: And obviously, the environmental concerns are bound to be a lot more complicated than Beef=Bad. As well, just because it’s complicated does not mean Beef≠Bad. Personally, I have no problem acknowledging that raising beef cattle makes a huge impact on the environment and still eat beef. I think I eat more lamb/mutton than beef, yet I also acknowledge that, pound for pound, lamb/mutton has an even bigger environmental impact than beef. :man-shrugging:
