Wasn't there some talk in here recently about M&C?

The author seems skeptical that it can be pulled off and claims that Hollywood is holding your hand to explain the backstory.

      Bullshit.

M&C is a fabulous film, to be sure, but having read the first book (I should dive into that series more), I'd love to see the relationship between Maturin and Aubrey grow.

Tried watching the original last week, abandoned half way…too slow for the crowd…I would have hung in there.

Those were my thoughts on first viewing, years ago. I recently re-watched "History Buff's" review on YouTube, and looked at the points he makes about the cinematography, etc.

It's much, much, better on second viewing.

The ending is so open-ended, begging for a followup story.

I loved it. A movie actually worth seeing on the big screen. I'll probably like the second one too.

Read the series. It's quite good.

I assume you're talking about the amputation scene. Yeah, that's disturbing.

But the bigger context to that scene is the absolute devotion that these officers had to God, Country and King. This boy embodied that, and it, though disturbing, makes you understand what these officers, who got their positions either from family or purchase, went through.

But, watch the "History Buffs" video for some context. It'll make you appreciate the move more, not only in terms of the story-telling, but also in terms of the art of filmmaking.
