A mayor who knew how to run a city would never let this story see the light of day.

@Axtremus said in Cosmetic Surgery Can Kill You: Misleading sensational headline. A more accurate one is "Lung Puncture by Plastic Surgeon Who May Not Have Recognized It Can Kill You." Even more accurate.

@Klaus said in Why in this day and age is dental work not covered by medical insurance?: @jon-nyc said in Why in this day and age is dental work not covered by medical insurance?: Too easy to game. I heard a dentist once say the average middle aged American has 50k of unperformed dental work in his mouth. It would be too easy to insure yourself for a year, get many thousands of work, and cancel. Our experience with our kids and the kids of many acquaintances: If your child is 10-14 years old and you send him or her to an orthodentist, your child will in 100% of the cases end up with some kind of dental brace, and the procedure will always cost around $10K. It's like a law. Mine gets braces next month. lol

No one ever accused me of being a devoted multiculturalist. People - all animals, really - like to associate with those who are rather like themselves. I think America does a pretty good job of being that melting pot, by and large, where people assimilate rather than segregate. Well, not Phibes, but you can only expect so much.

My father's father got a leg full of German machine gun bullets at Belleau Wood. Regular Army, not Marine, they were there too.

The Devil Dog thread had a reference to making the Pershing Park into a WW1 memorial. Maybe that was it?

@taiwan_girl said in Time to end the imperial presidency: @Jolly said in Time to end the imperial presidency: But I want to give the POTUS more power in one regard. I want the line item veto. And for Congress, I want a balanced budget amendment. Lastly, I want an age cap on the federal judiciary. I don't think people in their 80's should be sitting on the bench. I agree with #1 and #3 above for sure. Dont know enough about #2, but seems to make sense. If a house is expected to keep their budget inputs/outputs balanced, then why not government. The only thing I would say is that the balanced budget should be on more than a 1 year cycle. Getting a budget and forcing you to spend in in that year or lose it does not work all the time in my thinking. Maybe have a 5 year cycle or something like that. You can set it up as you wish, as long as it can't be fudged or the can kicked down the road. There will be exceptions for war, etc.

I dont quite understand, but reading a paper from the EIA, refining capacity is down only 1% from Jan 2021. And, of the 12 pipelines cancelled in the US since 2019, 8 of them were cancelled in 2020 or before. So President Trump gets 66% of the blame and President Biden 33%? 555 (https://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.php?id=39672#)

Hoop houses are great and are very efficient. A good bit of truck farming is headed that way. But you can't have pecans, etc in one. And one of the largest water users in agricultural crops are almond groves. Jon is probably on the right track

The “improvements” to Soldier Field to “modernize” it made it look like a UFO landed on top of the Parthenon, It is beyond FUGLY. And now, she wants to make it worse. Best thing that could happen is for the Bores to leave Chicago and put themselves in the ‘burbs. Oh, and how much is it going to cost? How about hiring more cops, Madam Mayor?

We can manage more than one hard sum at a time. As somebody who qualified as a maths teacher in the UK, to be honest I'm not sure I believe the "prestigious scholarship awarding body" - when I studied, admittedly a long time ago, they were ripping maths graduates' arms off to get them to do teacher training.
