In Atlanta today, the cops have backed up and are starting to let some rioters do what they may. Many have determined the possibility of criminal charges if the do the wrong thing in the heat of the moment or even if they appear to do the wrong thing through the wrong camera angle, is simply not worth it. I do know Apple is having to provide armed security for its Atlanta employees, and none of those employees are allowed to wear corporate insignia. The employees were being attacked, for whatever reason.

Yeah, you can always still eat it, but from what I understand the key that distinguishes OK carbonara from excellent one is the timing and texture of the sauce.

@jon-nyc said in How many of you have tried to restrain...: Interesting. I'm sure that'll figure large in their trials. Think so? The "I was only following orders" defense probably doesn't wash, particularly when you see a homicide occurring.

@jon-nyc Interesting article from 2011. I wonder when he'll get around to the late Beethoven sonatas. I'll look forward to that! I heard him play 'Gaspard' at the La Jolla summer festival a few years ago. He played with complete control of the dynamics. It was really very impressive. If he ever returns I'll go hear him again regardless of what he plays.

You should be specific about your predictions of everybody here if you're going to throw the grenade about how we're all totally predictable to someone of your level of perception and freedom of thought.

@LuFins-Dad If you feel the urge to organize peaceful protests for the killing of Mr. Timpa’s death by the Dallas police, please go ahead and do so, and I will support you in the same manner I support the peaceful protests stemming from the killing of Mr. Floyd. FWIW, the grand jury had the good sense to indict the Dallas police officers who killed Mr. Timpa, but the Dallas County DA dismissed the charges later anyway. Both Mr. Timpa and Mr. Floyd deserve justice.

Walmart has the stuff folks want, especially in lower SES. But it is difficult to listen to complaints of lack of opportunity or food deserts when businesses are periodically torched and looted..

Cannot say I like the post office, but I do like Cook County. Art Deco can be cool (see Union Terminal in Cincinnati) but it can also be lipstick on brutalism. The post office is one of those.

@Aqua-Letifer said in Don't tell BLM about these stats: @89th said in Don't tell BLM about these stats: Alright, I admit this was a quick exercise, but basically what I did was I took all violent crime offenders by race and compared police deaths by race, and it came out to 0.19% of whites are killed by police, and 0.15% of blacks are killed by police. If you look at all crimes (not just violent), it's about the same % (so, essentially no difference in skin color). I used FBI crime numbers for 2017-2019 as my source. Again.....I took about 5 minutes to run these numbers, am I missing something obvious? What I said before still stands: if we're talking real honest-to-God progress with race in the U.S., I think the "well-off white folk" have a responsibility to reach out to the black community and try to have an objective conversation. This kind of information is a good place to start. And the black community has a responsibility to listen objectively, respond, and then we go from there. Like any good compromise even this suggestion is sure to piss off a ton of people, but I was talking about progress, not one group or the other having positive feels. Progress is unattainable when the "victim" relishes their role.
