@George-K said in Think tank says US/Taiwan would defeat Chinese invasion..ion: I saw that yesterday. One of the comments I read stated that the Chinese have war-gamed this out as well, with a similar conclusion. War games took a reputational hit with the Ukraine thing. I hope they trust the results.

@George-K said in Bari Weiss: NYT asked Schumer to censor Scott: A spokesman for the Times responded to a request for comment on Weiss’s allegations by insisting that “New York Times Opinion never seeks outside approval or consultation whether to publish guest opinion essays.” I wouldn't expect it to be a codified or acknowledged practice. Of course it isn't. But of course it happens, directly and indirectly. And the smoky room dwelling powers being consulted, ain't your grandma's evil rich white republicans.

We're gonna need a bloody big microscope. I wonder what would happen if you put an angel into the Large Hadron Collider and cranked it up to 11.

@Ax said in Conspiracy Theory Supporter calls for Trump Execution: This vague talk about “context clue” is what the CCP uses the censor all sorts of stuff on the Internet within China. Don’t fall for it, strive for more intellectual rigor. Aqua said: Intellectual rigor? From you? Ax you can't even tell what others are saying. As far as I can tell, context clue is just a frilly way of saying "redundancy".

Very nice. Mrs. George and I had a cockatiel for about 2 weeks before she demonstrated an allergy to the powder on their feathers. The place where we bought (and returned) that bird had a hyacinth macaw. The loving nature of the bird really got us started on our journey with birds. The hyacinths are the largest of the macaws. I believe that they are no longer allowed to be imported, and so they must be domestically-bred. Ridiculously expensive - more than $10K last time I looked. The second largest species is that of the green-winged macaw (Sidney). Sidney weighs about 1 kg. The hyacinths are bigger than that. They are fantastic birds. Lifespan is on the order of other macaws, assuming no intervening illnesses.

@Jolly One of the few times that Nimitz and MacArthur saw eye to eye on joint operations. Likewise, Nimitz was blessed to have a brilliant and articulate naval tactician and strategist like Spruance at his side.
