@Axtremus said in Meanwhile, in New York...: @Doctor-Phibes , I once visited an underground coal mine and had long talks with the engineers there. One safety engineer, in particular, went into all sorts of spark prevention safety measures that they had to take with just about every piece of electronic they are allowed to take into the mine. It was quite eye opening. That's my job. Intrinsic safety. You limit the energy to levels that won't cause an ignition. Coal mining is a little different, as the underground aspect causes additional hazards, but the concepts are the same. The alternative method is to put the electronics in an explosionproof enclosure (i.e. a big metal box), that prevents an explosion from spreading, but that's a little unsophisticated, as are the people who do it.

Depends on what one needs to do. In agrarian societies it seems people have to get up early and start work early else the day gets too hot for outdoor work. So, circadian cycle or not, teenagers or not, you get up early else work does not get done. For the most part we are not an agrarian society anymore but old habits mislabeled as virtue still telling us that getting up early is good. But more practically, we are limited by transportation and childcare. Grownups have to get to work, so children have to be dropped off (or at least picked up from the house) before grownups start working. For certain age range, school takes on the childcare function. Add transportation time and the desire to avoid adding more buses to “rush hour” and voila, school age children has to get up early and get onto school buses early, circadian rhythm be damned. Local high schoolers (some of them, anyway) have been advocating for later school start time. They have been at it for years, but has yet to succeed. The pandemic has mixed things up a bit, showing us some alternatives. Maybe that will shake somethings loose for the high schooler’s plight. :man-shrugging:

Defenders win and will be playing Arlington in San Antonio for the XFL Championship. I notice the XFL has had better attendence than the USFL. I also suspect - unless there is a non-compete clause - several XFL players migrating to the USFL to finish out their season, unless they get signed to a NFL contract.

You have to have some sort of rudder. Pick any one you like, I suspect they’d have more flaws than ours.

@jon-nyc said in Damn. 37 month streak broken.: Very faintly detected. Hopefully I’ll be negative by the morning. Tomorrow is day 15. Symptoms mostly resolved on day 3. I guess my immunosuppressants are working. [image: 1682884997072-img_7394.jpeg] Yep. Be glad they are...

My vet (pretty blonde gal) rides a white mule. The mule is also broke to harness and she'll hitch him up to a buggy occasionally. I keep picking at her about when she's finally going to start roping off of him...

Jeff Ireland. Jeff is the guy who runs the scouts and player personnel for the Saints. Remember his name. Mickey Loomis may have the longest tenure at GM in the NFL. He is also the GM of the NO Pelicans in the NBA. Lots of talk about Mickey going to Denver or throttling back to just the Pelicans. Either way, Ireland will be a GM in the next few years.

They're greedy, though. Too many commercials. One they didn't mention was FreeVee. IMDB had started an ad supported streaming service that Amazon bought and added more content. At least the commercials seem to be a bit less. Another is YouTube. I think YT may have a couple of hundred (or more) movies streaming for free on its YouTube Movies channel. Not quite as many commercials as Tubi. And many of the individual channels on YT will have older content...But again, I've noticed more and longer ad breaks across the board.
