My sympathy metre for the perp’s parents checked out long ago particularly when it was made public that they had been called to the school the very day of the shooting and chose not to do anything about their disturbed teenager. That they also provided the means for said mentally disturbed teen to terrorize and murder his classmates and teachers, leads to me to total apathy as to their well being for their life in prison and beyond. I didn’t sense much in the way of remorse expressed by either guilty as charged parent, though I did however sense a fair amount of self justification and attempts at hand washing other day before the sentencing was handed down.

So, 'splain me this, Lucy. Once the skimmer reads the number, what is the likelyhood that the attempt at another purchase won't require the CVV code, or a zip code for verification? I can't buy anything online without the 3-digit verification.

We're just not good enough to deprive people of their lives.

@Axtremus said in Support for White Coats: He still uses a stethoscope (which he carries around), one side to listen to the lungs, the other side to listen to the carotid arteries Actually, the diaphragm on the stethoscope (the flat side) is for hearing higher-pitched sounds, and the bell is for lower frequencies. There have been times when I couldn't hear a murmur with the bell, but with the diaphragm, yes. Also, if i had listened to someone's heart or lungs through a piece of clothing, I would have failed that course. Today, everyone does it. Considering the availability of imaging, etc, the "art" of diagnosing someone with a physical exam is becoming lost. As a side note, in the OR, I used to use an "esophageal" stethoscope. It was a long tube with a bladder at the end. I'd position it behind the heart in the esophagus. Amazing what you could hear when you're about 5 mm from the heart. [image: 1712849551166-image.jpeg] I had a custom earpiece that would attach to the stethoscope.

@taiwan_girl said in The few, the proud,...: On my recent trip to Vienna, rented a car for one day. When looking to reserve the rental car, the cheapest ones were all manual. Using an automatic added to the price quite a bit. What a sneaky way to impose an American tax.

@Jolly said in in The Box: Calling Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks I saw him in concert. He puts on a very good show. I know he has played his top hits hundreds (thousands?) of times in concert, but he is able to make it seem as though he is still excited to play them.

What is the joke "saying"? Guy meets the "right" girl, and assumes she will never change. She does change.. Girl meets the "right" guy, and assumes she can change him to make him perfect. He doesn't change.

Somehow I don’t believe this was a cultural practice obtained from their European colonizers.

Plus, I actually hire a pretty diverse crew. Not through any intent, purely accidental, just chose the best applicants. But mostly? We’re in a position that if worse comes to worse, I could invest into buying myself a small business and feel comfortable enough to make a go of it. @Jolly said in Film Camera Sales: @89th said in Film Camera Sales: I literally just bought a polaroid camera, btw. Sure the film is like $2 per photo, but I went to an event with my 5 year old daughter the other day and someone took a photo of us. Man it was so nice to hold the physical photo, as imperfect as it is. Will be something I display/cherish forevah. Bad thing about Polaroids...They are bad about fading over time. Good call. I'm swapping to Instax.

@George-K I am aware of another variant, popular in certain parts of Asia, there the thumb is placed between the middle and ring fingers instead.
