@doctor-phibes said in Netflix and Amazon Prime Account Ethics?: @lufins-dad said in Netflix and Amazon Prime Account Ethics?: So, should I change my passwords and shut Luke out? No. What are you, Emperor fucking Palpatine? Isn't it bad enough that he has to wait until he's 21 to drink legally? FIFY.

My desk arrives on Wednesday, picked up my PC today. Very understated, a minimal amount of stupid blinkenlights, i7 processor, 32 gigs of memory, 1Tb NVME.M2 SSD, stuck with a 27", 1440p 165Hz monitor but I'm going to use it with VR when I can Can't bloody switch it on as the wife has retired to bed with a migraine, no doubt caused by my spending spree.

If we don’t know if people are in jail for misdemeanors we certainly can’t allege it. There are databases for everyone in jail and the charge, so an industrious person could easily figure it out. It’s all there. So as of this moment we are aware of no one in jail for a misdemeanor correct?

@jolly said in If we were a country...: Correct me if wrong, but I think Louisiana now has the highest COVID rate in the world. Hey, we're #1 in something! My singer friend in NOLA says that it's getting really bad there now. Restaurants and bars are requiring proof of vaccination for entry.

Interesting story...."For my agent." Rachmaninoff nervous before a performance? Say it isn't so, Sergei! Rachmaninoff was very aware of copyright laws and how he could get screwed by losing royalties to older works. According to Greenberg, that's the reason there is more than one version of The Firebird - different enough to get a new copyright.

The Wall Street Journal does an “interview” with Apple software chief Craig Federighi to “clarify” those new features about Apple attempting to detect child pornography on devices (embedded video): https://www.wsj.com/video/series/joanna-stern-personal-technology/apples-software-chief-explains-misunderstood-iphone-child-protection-features-exclusive/573D76B3-5ACF-4C87-ACE1-E99CECEFA82C I put “interview” and “clarify” in quotes because I don’t think the WSJ asks tough enough questions to really sketch out the risk of what Apple is doing that can harm consumer privacy. I would much rather have Electronic Freedom Frontier lawyer and engineer hash it out with Apple’s system architects and engineers.

$1.50 is too cheap. Around $2 is about right for a #2. Round $2.50 for purple stud. Plywood is still through the roof, though. Talked with a contractor Thursday. There's still so much work in the Lake Charles area, it's unbelievable. Some folks have been sitting on their insurance money, waiting for materials to go down. He's looking for a mini-surge. Hope they don't have another storm...

@doctor-phibes said in Plagiarism: It's always quite funny when somebody challenges a Town Hall diatribe with Snopes, and the person quoting Town Hall says 'Yeah, but Snopes has been shown to be like totally biased, libtard!', as though this somehow justifies their own foray into cockwomblehood. That would miss the distinction between purveyors of opinion, and self-described purveyors of objective fact.

@rich said in What are you doing today?: It seems no matter how many miles I run in the heat, I certainly never feel acclimated, though I could just be a big baby. It’s 93 out even now. I don’t think anyone on this board is going to call you a big baby for being bothered by the heat after running 10 miles.
