In the US, the word 'cunt' is underutilized.
When you shake someone's deep sense of self-worth, leaving a scar in their ego, they will persistently try to diminish you through petty arguments & obsessive captious criticism of your actions, just to soothe the wound.

Agreed.
D2 is the master of usage when it comes to that word. She will refer to her students, bad drivers, and inanimate objects that way.
I always revel in her imaginative use.

I prefer the usage you hear in the UK, more often than not used to refer to a guy. Here it seems to be just the worst word a woman can be called.

Used to be -- probably still is in some circles. But like many words that used to be reserved for use in situations of extremity, it's losing its sting.
Fat is much worse.
