C'mon, you should know better. In this particular case it's almost certainly social opportunism, not mental illness per se. Dad's famous, she's 16, and this is her way to get more attention because on social media (which she is on), gender reveal B.S. is about the best way possible to achieve that.

When our kids were small (less than 8 years old, iirc), Mrs. George went to some speaker's lecture/talk about parenting. She strong-armed me to accompany her.
Most of it was bullshit, but there was one thing that I heard which I thought was the best advice:
"If your kid wants to wear a Mohawk, shave their head, color their hair blue, paint their nails whatever color, let them. It doesn't matter. Let them do whatever they want about their appearance...
...as long as it's not permanent. No piercings, no tattoos, etc.
When they're out of your house and life, let them make those mistakes, but not when you're still the parent."
