It's spreading spreading emotional gasoline that was in this case distributed by the Washington Times. And the ultimate irony is that this is happening while in the context of vilifying the liberal media for doing that very thing.

When a person is a member of a tribe the only way they can improve their status is to participate more fully and faithfully in the rituals of the tribe.

Getting a tribal member to disagree with the any algorithm of the tribe is an existential threat to their membership and status.
