If you're among Texas cowboys, particularly the older guys, a cook who could make bear sign (kind of donut, almost like a funnel cake) was a prized cook, indeed. Cowboys would saddle up and ride miles for fresh bear sign.

Very interesting. OTOH, look at how different GOP supporters have been treated by Justice and by Congress and compare that to how Dems are treated. Seen any Dems visited by SWAT or perp-walked in cuffs lately?

Question: Will a banana be an appropriate substitute for a cucumber for those moments when you desire a little artificial intimacy? I'll defer to @Axtremus to do the research. He's done well so far, hasn't he?

The spirit of the quote still holds true. It's not like kids and older generations lived in perfect harmony, with parents thinking their kids were model citizens and certified Upstanding Young People for centuries prior to boomers. Yep, but they didn't usually walk into the classroom and kill a dozen kids. See jon's post about social contagion.

Been through there many times on my way to Kingsport and back, although I'd head up 25E from Bean Station. Never knew about the tomatoes or I'd definitely have picked some up.

Depends on what you plant. COVID did create a seed shortage, so maybe a food crisis would create a problem with seeds. But most of what I plant is open pollinated, so if needed, I could save most of my seeds, except for sweet corn and another one or two.

I have an elegant analytic solution: click to show Suppose you know that your coin has probability heads equal to either p or 1-p. You flip the coin n times and get h heads and t tails, with h+t=n and a difference d=h-t. Using the standard Bayesian formula and simplifying, you can show (setting tail probability as q=1-p): P(coin bias is p given observing h heads in n coin tosses) = (p^d)/((p^d) + (q^d)) This is a function of the difference in the observed numbers of heads and tails, not the overall number of coin tosses n. So in the example the probabilities must be equal, since 10-0=55-45. Done.
