@Aqua-Letifer said in "Our partner": @George-K said in "Our partner": Well, I guess this proves it, eh? https://www.mediaite.com/news/russian-tv-host-calls-for-regime-change-in-us-and-our-partner-trump-to-be-put-in-power/ A Russian TV host called for “regime change” in the U.S., and also for former President Donald Trump to be reinstated. The host, Evgeny Popov, went as far as to refer to Trump as a “partner” to the Russian people. Interesting in terms of what they think this achieves. I am sure it is exactly the 1D chess it appears to be.

@LuFins-Dad said in 17 surprising facts about energy: @Klaus said in 17 surprising facts about energy: I'm also highly critical of much of the climate change activism, but this guy goes a bit too far IMO (judging from the book blurb). We are notoriously bad at predicting how much fossil fuel remains, but we know for certain that we consume fossil fuels much more rapidly than they are renewed, and we know that the supply is shrinking rapidly. We can argue about time frames, but there is no doubt in my opinion that we'll have to mainly use other sources of energy in the future. If I'd be the world's boss, I'd build nuclear plants, solar energy where it is hot (for instance, not in Germany), wind energy where it's windy etc. I'd invest much more money into research on a) battery technology, b) alternative energy sources such as nuclear fusion. The way to stop everyone from burning coal etc. is to make it cheaper to generate energy without fossil fuels, not by crowd-pleasing sermons. One thing I want to add would be geo-thermal. Dropping a pipe a few hundred feet down makes a hell of a difference in heating and cooling… Though I do worry about leeching heat off of the earth. I agree. Isnt it Iceland which get s alot of its energy from geothermal? EDIT: Yes, it is "Over 85% of all houses in Iceland are heated with renewable energy sources, thereof are 66% geothermal. Five major geothermal power plants are active in Iceland. Those five plants also produce a little over 26% of the electricity used in Iceland. The vast majority of the nation’s electricity is generated by hydropower (waterfalls and steam) 73,8% to be exact. Only 0,1% is produced with fossil fuel." Sadly, both are on the verge of being crippled. Anyone who has ever watched Joe Biden has probably had at least some concern that he’s not all there. But nothing can be done about that.

@mark said in Sous Vide peeps!: @Mik interesting. I thought overcooking made it rubbery. huh. Learn something new everyday! At least it wasn't an expensive slab of Norwegian Salmon. I will try higher temp the time. It can be either one, but that's my experience. I sous vide some salmon a week or two ago and was not crazy about the outcome. It was kind of mushy. Grilling it hot prevents that. I think sous vide is great for vegetables and especially for meats that can take a very long cook. Had beef ribs from sous vide once that were fantastic. They cooked for about three days.

I don’t understand why he hated Asian people so much. I guess some people don’t have love in their hearts like I do, and like Will Smith does.

@LuFins-Dad said in Is this a stupid idea?: In 2 years, Luke’s going to be living off campus for a year as the school he’s at doesn’t have enough dorm housing for seniors and as the school continues to grow, that will spread into the juniors as well. We’re currently spending about $12K a year on room and board. Houses are currently renting around the campus at about $800 per bedroom and 3 bedroom houses are selling for roughly $200K. Would it be completely stupid to take the room and board we’ll be paying that year anyway and put it and a bit from savings as a down payment? Mortgage would be about $1200, so $800 per month for the other two bedrooms would cover the mortgage and utilities. After Luke graduates, that’s 3 bedrooms at $2400 per month, now you’re covering maintenance… Now college kids, yeah, I get it, but I can trust Luke for the one year, and keep the rental restricted to Seniors going forward… Get 5 years appreciation and sell… I would be looking for a 2 bedroom, ground floor condo about 5 to 10 miles away from the college.
