BTW, the M40 the Marines used until very recently, was a production Remington 700, that was then gone over with a fine tooth comb by the best armorers at Quantico. That's not a huge operation. Maybe a bit more than three guys, but it ain't over six that get their hands on those rifles. We fought with those from Vietnam to Iraq. I had a friend (now deceased) that had sixteen confirmed kills with his.

@George-K Goofy statement by her about too many people. I only did one long distance trip by Amtrak and that was in a sleeper car (thanks again George for all of your advice and help on that trip!!! :heartbeat: ) but I do not think that they allow "standers" on the train, right? And maybe the amount of passengers helped cushion her as she bounced around. LOL

Possibly. I think the article a bit disingenuous on how easy it was to commit somebody back then, but it's a fact people were institutionalized for longer periods in mental hospitals. Without the drugs we have today, a lot of people didn't get turned around to where they could function in society.

@jon-nyc said in Today's camping hack: Extension cords for camping? We used tents and fires when I was a kid. I kind of thought the same thing. 555 But if you are car camping or something like that, it is a useful trick I think.

Forging on . . . This is an important article. It turned my general dismay at social media from a mental pile of spaghetti into a neat line. I've bookmarked it. He has a very interesting and creative and punchy writing style. Like: " . . . social media deputizes everyone to administer justice with no due process . . . When our public square is governed by mob dynamics unrestrained by due process, we don’t get justice and inclusion; we get a society that ignores context, proportionality, mercy, and truth." And I love how he hooked us back to James Madison's examination of this very concept. Loved the continuum. An awful but true indictment that we must be always consciously aware of even as we're wallowing in it -- for the sake of our humanity. Thanks for posting this, Mik.

@George-K said in Flashlight News: With the arrival of flashlights on phones, my need for a standalone flashlight has diminished to almost zero. However, I also have a "headlight" - it's a headband with an LED flashlight attached. Indispensable. I have a Petzl. It's great.
