Kind of the equivalent in popularity and dying young in Taiwan was a female singer called Teng Li Chun, or Teresa Teng. One of the most super popular singers ever. Link to video

@Mik said in The future of the car market...not good...: Can they meet American safety standards? Will Americans be willing to drive econoboxes? This. RIght now, the answer is no. Seems like US people really like big vehicles.

Half credit. Keep them here and let more American labor learn a better work ethic from them. As long as we subsidize laziness, I'm afraid much of the public cannot be taught.

@jon-nyc said in Less Nicotine: Once I figured out (the hard way, mind you) that you don’t inhale cigars I couldn’t for the life of me understand why people smoke them. Just for the bad breath and smelly clothes? There are few smells better than a nearby cigar on the golf course. But 99 times out of 100 I'd rather just smell it than smoke it.

@jon-nyc said in The Dodo might not be so dead.: Sam Harris had this guy on his podcast a month or two ago. Title hs something to do with bringing back the wooly mammoth. Worth listening to. I hope they do bring back the wooly mammoth, so that I'm not a liar. Considering my son asked me if they are still alive and I said yes...

@jon-nyc But I don’t know about the military. Probably stronger. Definitely bigger in terms of manpower. Untested in combat since the late 1970s against Vietnam. A distant memory to a couple of retired senior officers otherwise, a case study for officer cadets on how not to wage war in mountainous jungle terrain against a battle hardened military force on the defensive.
