Could PResident Trump sign an executive order to make phones prohibited in all public grade schools? What 89 said. But I have no doubt he could issue such an EO and, the same day, issue a statement that the Feds have no role in education and propose eliminating the DoE and not blush.

Nohilly testified Wednesday as the first prosecution witness in the criminal misconduct trial of former District Attorney Jackie Johnson, coastal Glynn County's top prosecutor when Arbery was killed nearly five years ago. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr's office is prosecuting Johnson on charges that she violated her oath of office and interfered with police investigating Arbery's killing. But Johnson's defense lawyers seized on opportunities to use Nohilly and a second prosecution witness Wednesday to undercut prosecutors' arguments that Johnson abused her power to delay arrests and influence the appointment of an outside prosecutor who had decided Arbery was killed in self-defense. The former DA is being prosecuted by Georgia's attorney general https://www.yahoo.com/news/youre-going-home-police-tell-184036637.html

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in prison for accepting bribes of gold and cash and acting as an agent of Egypt — crimes his lawyer said he’s been mocked for as “Gold Bar Bob.” The judge delivered the sentence after Menendez tearfully addressed the court, saying he’d lost everything he cared about, except his family. The Democrat resigned last year after becoming one of only a handful of U.S. senators ever convicted while in office. and The ex-senator was convicted of selling his once-considerable clout for bribes worth a fortune. FBI agents who searched his house found $480,000, some of it stuffed inside boots and pockets of clothing, and gold bars worth an estimated $150,000. and Menendez, 71, portrayed himself to the judge as a sympathetic figure, stressing his decades of public service and declaring that he was chastened by the experience. Afterward, talking to reporters with TV cameras and microphones outside, he turned defiant. “I am innocent,” he proclaimed, vowing to appeal. https://apnews.com/article/bob-menendez-sentencing-new-jersey-bribery-fc8720f8b74fd431b40b1f7b4dcd5ac7

It's the State Department's position that a robust civil service is important to the country, hence why funding is given accordingly. Of course, this is broadly speaking, if there is an NGO telling Mexicans how to sneak into the country.... straight to jail.

@Horace said in He could have been a heartbeat away: It's not even clear that Walz was a lesser presidential prospect than Harris. True. For better or worse, at least Walz has executive experience running state affairs. Harris just has experience running affairs amirite.

@taiwan_girl Exactly, the blessing and curse of short terms. This is where I would hope Trump would step up and say "here is a 12 year plan to get our financials in order" (yes that takes it through two terms for Vance).

And it is fair to point to this as the beginning of the resistance. This woke a lot of people up, and in another interview, I saw Ben reference this as the reason why they decided to stand their ground on the issue. Link to video
