@LuFins-Dad said in Bourdain was a pretty smart guy.: @Aqua-Letifer said in Bourdain was a pretty smart guy.: @Mik said in Bourdain was a pretty smart guy.: I like to cook something complicated at times, but only if I think it's going to taste great and be pretty healthy. I don't buy massively expensive cookwear and tools because I think it's wasteful. It's like smokers and grills - learn to cook on what you have. Developing that judgement will help you more than buying a $3K smoker. Ayep. 2 good knives, a decent cutting board and a pan can get you pretty damn far. Careful… That’s sounding pretty close to a minimalist brag… No, I've just worked in kitchens and I was taught how to use a knife.

@89th Yeah, if I related our junior and senior high school exploits you would find you were an angel. Maybe a saint.

I suspect Adams thinks his friends threw him to the wolves. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, etc.

@Doctor-Phibes said in Andy and Epstein: I'll believe it when I see it. Clearly there's a reason this hasn't happened. Blackburn of Tennessee tried to get them released, but she blames that Durbin of Illinois is stonewalling. Of course that was the previous administration and the previous congress. Searching around, Durbin's actions seem to be procedural. Let's see what happens.

@Jolly said in Less than 12 hours...: @89th said in Less than 12 hours...: Not sure who she is, seems like a nice gal. Her intro made me think she is eloquent but also just taking a long way to say "we're gonna talk about news stories". Agree there is a right wing cancel culture (Trump is leading that, it seems) we should be careful of. For a better response, see Dana White (UFC president) and his statement about one of his fighters who ranted on a podcast about how Hitler was actually a pretty good guy and was trying to save his country. In short, he said the guy is dumb as shit... and a reporter asked if there would be punishments and White said basically, no it's free speech, it doesn't mean we have to like it, and if you don't like it you can watch him get his ass whooped in the UFC ring, lol. Thought you would know who Cooper was.

This thread reminds me - prior to transplant I had rare NTM (non-tubercular mycobacteria) colonization, called Mycobacterium Kansasii (Gram positive and acid fast, FWIW). And another NTM called mycobacterium avium complex which is far more common. I think medicine has twice saved my life (at least), the transplant itself and the trio of antibiotics I took (for a couple of years) which kept the two NTM infections at low enough levels to survive. It never eliminated them though, they were incinerated with my old lungs. I had to conitinue the antibiotics prophylactically for a few months to prevent colonization of the new set.

@jon-nyc said in Poll on the reconciliation bill: What will be the effect, using normal budgetary rules (10 year impact on the projected deficit relative to current law) of the reconciliation bill that the GOP finally passes? A) it will raise the deficit B) It will lower the deficit Oh, I have zero expectations of lowering the deficit. Is it too early to have a drink?

I wonder how much of this is shock and awe? Just keep throwing so much small crap out there as a distraction that some of the serious stuff gets through?
