https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-59734747 The millipede, known as Arthropleura, is thought to have been more than 2.5m (8ft) long. It would have weighed about 50kg (eight stone). The fossil segment was first spotted in 2018 when a large block of sandstone fell on to a beach at Howick Bay. It will be displayed in Cambridge's Sedgwick Museum next year. "It was a complete fluke of a discovery," said Dr Neil Davies, from Cambridge's Department of Earth Sciences, who has been analysing the 75cm-long fossil. "The way the boulder had fallen, it had cracked open and perfectly exposed the fossil, which one of our former PhD students happened to spot when walking by," Dr Davies said. Eight. Feet. Long.
  • It's not mine. I have NO idea how it got there.

@taiwan_girl said in Get your shots people!: Woke up this morning to a group text from friends that a friend from the US (actually more of an aquaintance since I did not know her that well) had passed from COVID. She got COVID and went into the hospital about 10 days ago. When I last got an update at the end of last week, she was still in the hospital but they were talking about her being almost well enough to release. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I am not sure of her age, but if I am guessing, i think she was between 55-60 and as far as a know, she did not have any underlay health conditions. And unfortunately yes, she was unvaccinated. I'm really sorry to hear that, TG. It's a terrible way to go.

No, she understands that 2022 is going to be a historic bloodbath, maybe of 1994 proportions. She's also a blue dawg, so I'm wondering if she's already polled her district's voters, and knows she doesn't have a chance.

@jolly said in Good Stewards: Have we been good stewards if our healthcare resources? Probably not. If the healthcare is like other businesses ,people are so busy in their regular job functions that trying to cross train just doesn't work. While it seems like a long time, it seems to me that 2 years is pretty short in the medical industry.

@copper said in "It's embarrassing.": Meanwhile, other Western countries have tapped into their modern health systems that can easily track patient data and seamlessly share epidemiologic information across a broad spectrum of health care facilities and public health departments. Really? I mean, really and truly? Come on. That's hilarious. Has anybody been watching the debacle in the UK? The anger has been added to by a number of photographs and videos of parties occurring in and around 10 Downing Street right when everybody else was completely locked-down. A right bunch of twats, and no mistake.

I think they have a week or two to make that determination. Even then, it looks like it would really be the fourth.

If the Saints had not turned the ball over three times, we'd have beaten them in the play-off game last year. We've got Tom's number. Shucks, we beat him in New England. It's one of those things that is very simple, but hard to do. Get pressure on him by just rushing four and play man-to-man in the secondary.

@axtremus said in British Medical Journal to FB: FOAD: @doctor-phibes said in British Medical Journal to FB: FOAD: I used to get mildly irritated by the inanity of people posting photos of their dinner on FB, along with stuff like 'look at me, I'm at the airport!', as though nobody else knows what one looks like. These are now the best bits. Your perspective changes as you age, eh? It's not me that's changed, it's the imbeciles posting on FB.

@copper said in George Will on the 1619 Project: @george-k said in George Will on the 1619 Project: the American Revolution, the most important event in our history, was shameful because a primary reason it was fought was to preserve slavery Does anyone really believe this? I'm beginning to think, maybe some do. crazy Sure, humans believe whatever is socially advantageous for them to believe. Wokedom is socially advantageous (consider how many friends these outraged people made or reinforced with those tweets) and the belief in it by the mediocre indoctrinated masses is not different psychologically from any other belief. It is a fully felt and trusted belief.
