  • Why Canadians Can't Have Nice Architecture

I think these days we lack a long-term vision of the value of good architecture. The pyramids in Egypt were quite expensive but how many visitors did they attract over 4000 years? Our time horizon these days is more like "does it pay off within 30 years", and for public buildings politicians are worried about delays and being over budget.

@george-k said in Bye bye Europe?: @george-k said in Bye bye Europe?: After being hacked Gotta admit - I'm on FB, though not for anything serious. How, exactly, does one get "hacked" on FB? I have no idea how hacking works, but don't ever try to buy anything advertised on FB Marketplace. Somehow, scammers can hack into an innocent persons account and use it to advertise things like "2019 Cadillac for 2800 dollars.. 32,000 miles, always garage kept. " if you report the ad to FB as a scam, the ad will say "this seller has turned on vacation mode and can no longer send or receive messages". The problem - the hacker is able to add to that message "I'm advertising this for my aunt. Contact her at betty156@gmail.com....."

But seriously, so much of that stuff is just people making money off market research. never answer those questions.

Separate bathrooms are a big plus in marital harmony. There are just things I know occur, but Indo not wish to see them.

How many Brazilians does it take to pave a highway... Depends on how thin you mash them..... Ax says "how much is a brazillian?..... and did they pay their fair share in taxes?"

LD I'll be getting a TV for our basement later this year and will go for the OLED. Like @jon-nyc said, if you use something enough, IMO it's worth it to max it out. For 90% of the content out there, a QLED or whatever is more than terrific. But I plan for this to be my main sports/movie TV for at least the next decade so I'm going to go with the latest tech.

Free pipes for their crack. Let's give them free Cadillacs and a nice mansion in Malibu too.

Great story. Truly the greatest generation. When I worked in an auto parts store during college one of my co-workers was Wendell Stokes, who had been captured in France and taken back to a POW camp in Germany for over a year. Despite being a gregarious guy, he wouldn't talk too much about it - just snippets here and there. I could tell it was bad, but he didn't focus on that, but on the stuff they pulled on the guards. I miss that job and I especially miss Wendell.

@jolly During the first half of last year, Biden’s policies on COVID and the economy seemed right on target — and by summer his approval ratings reflected that. Who you gonna trust, this guy, or your own lyin' eyes? [image: 1644239666409-screen-shot-2022-02-07-at-7.13.44-am-copy.jpg] He started falling in late June (the beginning of Summer) and it continued through September. His (poll) decline started even before the Afghanistan debacle.

@renauda said in Hay, model builders: Definitely a first rate builder and presenter. Museum quality completion. I have no experience beyond age 12 but that’s certainly how it appears to me.

While people sit on their asses and whine about Trump a whole fucking year after he left office, the very swamp he was trying to drain is busy trying to take away your freedoms. It's a good thing I don't have kids in school today. I'd kill somebody.
