@brenda He curls with his school team and in a junior programme out of one the many private curling rinks in the city. Unlike organized hockey here, enrolment and participation into curling is inexpensive and the training always takes place at civilized times of the day. Curling rinks and clubs are located in urban and rural areas throughout the country. You never have to go far to find one.

@george-k Are these people as violent as the BLM rioters? ….I'm not defending these people, simply because I'm ignorant of what they're trying to accomplish, but I think your equivalence of the two movements is a bit off-kilter. Point taken. They are not violent, or at least up this point, not physically violent. Wanton hooliganism has not characterized the protest. Nevertheless, this mob is not exactly a few doofuses wanting to take selfies in front of the Canadian Parliament Peace Tower. On the other hand, the Ottawa Police and RCMP have deliberately not provoked them and have chosen instead to defuse potential incidents calmly and with minimal force. It is time for these yobs to go home. They have made their voices heard. They have very certainly cowed a few Conservative Party provincial premiers into promising action to lift mandates and restrictions in the coming days and weeks. The Conservative toad running this province, already on waivers with his Party, is certainly intimidated by the protest and his macho-libertarian caucus. Why the movement is targeting Trudeau and federal government is beyond me. The protesters have certainly done irreparable damage to the very Party that best represents their interests at the federal level in Parliament. That leads me to the conclusion that they are not at all interested in parlay or parliamentary democracy. Then to hell with them all, they really do deserve nothing from the rest of Canada.

@jon-nyc said in In search of the Endurance: It’s awesome. Started it this morning. So well written, and I'm only up to the part of the departure of "Endurance." The FIRST sentence of the book... (paraphrasing) "The order to abandon ship was given at 5:15." If that doesn't suck you in... Gonna really enjoy this one.

George, we prefer the reduced sodium version. It still has plenty of salt in it. I did not like it for many years, but hubby has changed my mind. I now enjoy it with eggs and toast for breakfast. Hubby likes it for lunch with some toasted bread. Be sure to brown it in a skillet. That makes a nice crisp crust for both texture and flavor. Do that with diced Spam, and then add it to your scrambled eggs or omelet.

@larry That's the music I grew up hearing. Though I never knew his name, his work is exactly what I think of for piano in country music. Thank you for sharing this, and may he continue to play his music with the angels.

@aqua-letifer said in The numbers are not the numbers: @lufins-dad said in The numbers are not the numbers: @aqua-letifer said in The numbers are not the numbers: @lufins-dad said in The numbers are not the numbers: I don’t get it. The numbers weren’t bad, so why all the fuss? Unless they didn’t know the numbers weren’t bad? That’s actually kind of troubling… No, that's exactly how it should work. The numbers are independently calculated. They're not supposed to know, or have any influence. Si, but SecLab should should have a pretty good feel of whether the numbers are good, bad, or so-so based on their own work… SecLab doesn't decide the formula. The formula and the exact numbers aren’t what I’m talking about. Just a general feel for how employment numbers looked. The department should have certainly been in regular contact with various trade and labor groups and should have a general feel for whether these groups are seeing large drops in new hires and layoffs… The fact that they were expecting something different than what they saw tells me that either there has not been consistent communication or the communication gave them false impressions. Either of which isn’t good…
