@Mik said in So Phibes won't get mad at you...: England is a country like Nigeria It's nothing like Nigeria. Nobody in England, least of all some Prince you've never heard of, is going to give you a shit-ton of money for doing very little. In fact, nobody in England will give you the time of day without expecting up-front payment. And as for the generosity of the Scots....

A computer engineer who believes his Bitcoin hard drive worth nearly £600m is buried in a landfill is now considering buying the entire site to find it. and The council has since announced plans to close the tip in the 2025-26 financial year and turn the site into a solar farm on the land to power the council's new bin lorries. But Mr Howells, 39, has said he would be interested in purchasing the site instead in the hopes that he can finally locate his missing hard drive, https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/bitcoin-landfill-james-howells-newport-b2695905.html

@taiwan_girl said in 800,000 in NYC: INteresting. What do you guys think? I remember @Doctor-Phibes had some good arguements as to why it should be allowed. The ones I may have spoken about were local town elections. We own property, our kids go to the local schools, we pay taxes, get involved in the community etc. Green card holders have been vetted, unlike the native-born, so arguably we're a lower risk of craziness than the typical Floridian. Well, it's not really arguable, I'm just being polite. On the other hand I can see the reason for the rules, and there's a danger of slippery slopes occurring.

@jon-nyc said in "We Build the Wall" scammers sentenced to prison: I wonder if Bannon is next. IIRC there were some pretty incriminating texts. https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/business/money-report/former-trump-aide-steve-bannon-pleads-guilty-in-new-york-build-the-wall-case/3841587/ Steve Bannon, a former top White House aide to President Donald Trump, pleaded guilty in New York in connection with the defrauding of Trump supporters who contributed to a purported effort to build a wall on the U.S. border with Mexico. Bannon was sentenced to three years of conditional discharge after pleading guilty, meaning he will not serve any time in prison. Trump pardoned Bannon in January 2021 in connection with federal charges related to the "We Build the Wall" organization scam. Three other defendants in that case received prison sentences.

@89th I actually used to enter in serial numbers of dollars. Kind of fun to see where they were and went. But I stopped doing it a long time ago.

Seems to make sense. But is this really new? The US Navy uses nuclear power on submarines and ships, and I would assume these are quite small overall. Met a guy once who was in the Navy Nuclear program and did his training on a small nuclear power plant in Idaho.

Not really an arguement. I just am not sure that people (not on this forum board) understand what may happen when we lose the illegal work force. Two of the main areas that President Trump campaigned on was the economy (inflation) and illegal immigration. In alot of ways, they work against each other.

@Jolly said in Joe Speaks: @89th said in Joe Speaks: I'm not seeing much from DOGE revealing stuff we didn't already know, Some of it we didn't, but the general public knows a lot more, because legacy media is almost being forced to carry this stuff as current news. And the hits just keep on coming. At what point is the American public motivated to tear at least some of it to shreds and reallocate the pieces? I think Americans have already voted for that with Trump's win, and Trump will do that (or at least try to) where it makes sense. I do enjoy overall the increased focus on "where is my tax dollar going?", even if it's not making a dent in the more existential threats such as the ballooning debt/deficit, SS solvency, and medicare.

Hmmm, maybe i am reading the below report wrong, but I see in 2024, 5/12 months were adjusted upwards and 7/12 adjusted downwards. In 2020, 5/12 months were adjusted upwards, and 7/12 adjusted downwards. https://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/cesnaicsrev.htm#2019 Not a math person, so maybe someone better than me can translate. The first three numbers are seasonally adjusted numbers (3 revisions) and the second three are non-seasonaly adjusted. 2023 (2024 not yet shown) [image: 1739287507869-screen-shot-2025-02-11-at-9.22.52-am.png] 2020 [image: 1739287551719-screen-shot-2025-02-11-at-9.25.34-am.png]

And while we're at it, there are some outstanding diesel-electric sub designs to be had off-the-shelf, for a fraction of what a nuclear submarine costs. For some roles, they are ideal.
