I have a smart fridge. I determines when the fridge is less likely to be used to do its defrost cycle or something. I'm really glad because otherwise I'd hate to take 12 seconds to tell it to defrost IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREAKIN' NIGHT.

@Friday As I remember, the child went to the OR. I assume endoscopically. I just remember the X-ray up on the board and all of us, saying “Yup, it’s Christmas. That’s it!”

I'm genuinely disappointed in what Nigel Farage has done. Obviously, I've always disliked the guy, but he really seems to have gone off the edge of late, in what really appears to be a pathetic attempt to stay in the limelight. There have been numerous examples of this, and he actually said that Rishi Sunak "doesn't understand British culture" after he left the D-day commemoration early, which is clearly a racist dog-whistle, despite his protestations to the contrary. Hopefully he'll lose this bid to become an MP, as he did in his previous 7 attempts.

Uvalde police indicted over role in slow response The former Uvalde schools police chief and another former officer have been indicted over their role in the slow police response to the 2022 massacre at a Texas elementary school that left 19 children and two teachers dead, according to multiple reports on Thursday. The Uvalde Leader-News and the San Antonio Express-News reported that Pete Arredondo, the former schools police chief, and Adrian Gonzales, a former officer, were indicted by a grand jury on multiple counts of felony child endangerment and abandonment. The Leader-News reported that Christina Mitchell, the local district attorney, confirmed the indictment. The Austin American-Statesman also reported that two former officers had been indicted but did not identify them. Mitchell did not immediately return messages from the Associated Press seeking comment. Several family members of victims of the shooting did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment. The indictments would make Arredondo, who was the on-site commander during the attack, and Gonzales the first officers to face criminal charges in one of the deadliest school shootings in US history. A scathing report by Texas lawmakers that examined the police response described Gonzales as one of the first officers to enter the building after the shooting began.

I believe, but have no direct proof, that the military works with google and other satellite image companies to blur out pictures with classified or sensitive defense information. As @Jolly points out, you can get HD wallpapers of this, so it's not a big secret I'm guessing? Cool vehicle btw.

@Doctor-Phibes said in So what was your day job?: After Googling her name hoping for some better pics Ok that me chuckle. I did the same... purely for research purposes. Yeah her real estate license was revoked for some fraud. So let me get this straight... checked sex history, fraud, loves orange, makes a duck lips face in mugshot.... yup, Trump's new VP!

@Jolly said in The Broadband Infrastructure we were promised.: Sadly, it's something that is badly needed and maybe one of the best things to come out of the Biden Administration. Yes. Deeper in the article, it talks about the percentage of the US which has broadband from the private sector. Surprisingly high. Also, Starlink is a reasonable, and almost reasonably-priced, alternative. The kit is $500 and it's $120 a month for unlimited data. https://www.starlink.com/service-plans

I watched one of the pretrial hearings. Apparently the defense had a list of witnesses whom they may call. They submitted the list by the deadline (as did the state). Once the list had been submitted, they discovered that one of the witnesses will testify that s/he saw Baldwin pull the trigger, which he has always denied. Having learned this, they want to disqualify the witness. State objected to the motion. Judge upheld the State. This judge, by the way, is the same one who presided over the Guiterrez-Reed case. She can be a bad-ass.

The thing is, he’s not getting the award for that, but for 50 years worth of work since. He’s been the director of all the Steelers videography for 30 years and has done an amazingly job, helping to define the modern camera placement for TV broadcasts, the All-22 Coaches Tape, and more. But, it started as an extra 5 cameramen needed for the Wild Card Game. So he came in for a one game gig and just happened to catch a pivotal part of one of the most controversial plays of all time… That brought him back the next year, and the rest is history.

The Judge High-powered obnoxious Chicago lawyer (Robert Downey Jr.) goes home to Indiana to bury his mother. His two sibs (Vincent Dinofrio and Jeremy Strong) and father (Robert Duvall) have a strained relationship. Duvall is indicted in a hit-and-run and Downey defends him. Kind of sappy, formulaic, etc. But watching these actors was amazing. Downey dominates every scene...except those where opposing counsel, Billy Bob Thornton is in. On Netflix for another 3-4 days. Watch it at 1.25 speed.... Link to video

@Renauda said in Beethoven's hair - again: Beethoven’s health was at best, a mess Yeah, no kidding. Somewhere I read that the cause of death was "jaundice and dropsy." Sounds like liver failure to me. Also, his gut was awful. I believe it was Rossini who visited him in Vienna and was appalled at the condition of his apartment. There were chamber pots stored under the piano, filth everywhere. Robert Greenberg commented that the Second Symphony might have been Beethoven's way of externalizing his cranky gut. The whole 4th movement is a bunch of hiccups, burps and farts. Link to video
