As the name suggests, emergency temporary standards “are an ‘unusual response’ to ‘exceptional circumstances.’” Thus, courts have uniformly observed that OSHA’s authority to establish emergency temporary standards under § 655(c) “is an ‘extraordinary power’ that is to be ‘delicately exercised’ in only certain ‘limited situations.’” But the Mandate at issue here … is a one-size fits-all sledgehammer that makes hardly any attempt to account for differences in workplaces (and workers) that have more than a little bearing on workers’ varying degrees of susceptibility to the supposedly “grave danger” the Mandate purports to address. It doesn't always, but governments have an insatiable lust for power, which many times relies on all types of weapons.

“In the course of the fight, the suspect took out a pistol firing rubber bullets and fired several shots at his opponent,” it said, adding that one man was detained and the victim was taken to hospital. I wonder if he would will such a reaction to become a universal law.

@doctor-phibes said in Wake up, Brandon!: Old men who fail in their job send young men to pay the price of their failure. It depends on the circumstances. On September 16, 1940, the United States instituted the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, which required all men between the ages of 21 and 45 to register for the draft. This was the first peacetime draft in United States' history. Those who were selected from the draft lottery were required to serve at least one year in the armed forces. Once the U.S. entered WWII, draft terms extended through the duration of the fighting. By the end of the war in 1945, 50 million men between eighteen and forty-five had registered for the draft and 10 million had been inducted in the military. https://www.nationalww2museum.org/students-teachers/student-resources/research-starters/draft-and-wwii

@jolly said in Still Lovin My Boys . . .: Yep. Fourth kicker the Saints have had this year. Their normal kicker, Big Nuts Lutz hurt himself at the end of the season last year and reinjured himself in training camp. He's gone for the year. Our kicker has been booming them this year. In fact, I saw an interesting factoid, if you took out 2017, he would be the most accurate kicker in the league. This is in the stadium that is considered to be one of the worst if not the worst in the league. He has boomed several 59-yard field goals this year. With six seconds left in overtime, our TE caught the ball at the 39 yard line which would have been a 56 yard FG. Rather than going out of bounds, he tried to gain just a couple more yards to shorten the FG attempt. He fumbled the ball, instead. Ugh....

I told Mrs. Phibes to watch this - she said 'I'm too busy at the moment', then out of the blue she sent me a message via Facebook with the exact same video, so presumably she was too busy watching movies on Facebook. Great minds, and all that....
