I think the big problem with moon dust/dirt is that it is very abrasive. There is no wind or weather, so the rough/sharp edges of the rocks stay rough and sharp. The Apollo astronauts reported that this sharp dust got into everything. I wonder if it will turn out like the alien organism in Andromeda Strain that mutated into a rubber eating monster that dissolved all the air seals.

I know nothing of backstory, etc. But even Mrs. George, who was an ICU nurse said, "That needs a plate and screws across the fracture, perhaps an intramedullary rod as well."

This might be a nothingburger - landing nothing more than a "lied to the FBI conviction." But... The judge who restricted what evidence can be brought in the trial said that, if the indictment is broadened, more evidence can be admitted. IOW, he said, "cast your net wider."

@George-K said in Vetting Barnette: I really haven't been following this story much. But, I just saw this on Twitter: "If a year ago we told you that the GOP primary for #PASen was a contest between a black woman, a Muslim doctor & a Gulf War vet for the right to take on a Democrat candidate who chased down a black jogger with a shotgun would you think the race would look anything like this?" The problem is that the last time she ran, they ate her alive on these issues. She either needs to come forward with a decent explanation or she needs to get out of the way.

@jon-nyc said in An "Unthinkable Tragedy": @Jolly said in An "Unthinkable Tragedy": Why haven't we seen a reformulation of the vaccines? They've had plenty of time. Pfizer says this fall. They are quoted as saying ‘it’s easy to make one for omicron, but it’s harder to make one for all known variants this far” which is what they’re doing. They're never going to get one for all known variants and they know that. Viruses gotta virus. What they could have done is formulate a booster that included Omicron and most known variants at the time of manufacture. But they didn't. The reason?

I read MacIntyre's book a long time ago - 15 years? - so many of the details are just a hazy memory. But... I watched about 45 minutes of the movie. First of all I hate when TV shows and Movies go with "Six months earlier..." Just tell the damn story. I don't need melodramatic flash-forwards to hook me into the story. Secondly the role of Ian Fleming is WAY overstated in the beginning of the movie. His participation was really minor. Third, there's little description of how the plot was really hatched. This was a major part of the book, and is just glossed over in the beginning of the movie. As much as I enjoy the female lead (Mary McDonald - she was great in "Boardwalk Empire"), her role in the story was very minor. I guess a war story about spies and submarines during WWII needed to have menstruating uterus-possessing female persons because of diversity. After all, it's their strength. Lastly, the book makes a huge deal about how the to serve as bait was chosen. All the false starts, all the decisions, were hugely important. The movie makes it look like they just stumbled on it. Disappointment. I need to read this book again - Macintyre is great.

@Mik said in What's going on in Moscow: How much longer can this go on without bleeding the nation dry? I think that President Putin is taking into account "sunk costs" when looking forward about the war, which is just about the worst thing he can do.

@Ivorythumper said in Puff piece on Karine: @taiwan_girl said in Puff piece on Karine: “What we see in others is always a mirror of what we see in ourselves" LOL I think that is rather wrong. What we see in others is frequently that which we do not see in ourselves, but wish that we had: charm, intelligence, success, confidence, talent, etc. I think that's often true—it explains pretty much every internet troll out there. But it's also not a universal explanation. Sometimes, you have expectations of others—e.g., respect other people's feelings—that you perceive as not being sufficiently met. Has nothing to do with wishing you were as charismatic or confident as the blowhard in the room, and everything to do with you concluding that he's an asshole. I suspect that when we are irritated or even disgusted by others, we might react adversely because we realize our own frailties and susceptibilities, and it is easier to externalize our own "badness" on to others rather than do the hard work of fixing ourselves. Again, only sometimes. Placing a negative judgment on, say, a total douche in public is an immediate reaction and not always incorrect. Failing to live up to our own expectations has nothing to do with others' social inadequacies and how much harm they can cause everyone around them. Sure, with some introspection, we might decide to be more constructive and take the Stoic route to self-improvement instead, but not liking some assclown doesn't always have to do with projection.
