In Taiwan, your driver license has a special code if you take your driving test in a manual car. That makes you legal to drive one. If you take your test in an automatic car, you are not legal to drive a manual. (I learned on a manual because that is what my parents had. LOL) ( I think that is a funny but true statement about manual cars less likely to be stolen. An anti theft device!!!)

What a grusome picture. But, isn't there a saying - "the only people who make war seem glamorous are those who were never in one"

@Aqua-Letifer said in Maher: "It's OK to let yourself go.": @taiwan_girl said in Maher: "It's OK to let yourself go.": That was quite good. A couple of comments "How many fat 90 year old people do you see?" At first, this made me laugh, but then think, that yup, he is right. I dont think obesity is so easy to solve. There have been studies that show that A. When people start to lose weight, the metabolism slows down so that they have to pregressivley eat less and less B. some obesity is from whatever was in your "gut" when you were born I think his point, based on all of the context, was not directed at the few who genuinely struggle with obesity. I think he was talking about the growing number of us who have become obese based on poor choices that are encouraged by the body positivity movement. You are absolutely right. I see in very obviously in Taiwan. So many young kids are pretty fat.

@Horace said in Save the Planet: If you’re talking about joe average denizen of leftist pop culture, they have been successfully indoctrinated against nuclear energy because nuclear energy lacks virtue. I don’t think there exists a better explanation of their opinion than that. As for smoky room types at the levers of power, indeed why do they hate nuclear energy so much? There's always been a link between nuclear power and nuclear weapons in many people's heads, however you might as well link the use of nitrates in farming with terrorist bombings, and it could be argued that a good use for nuclear weapons that aren't needed any more would be to provide fuel for nuclear power.

We had a little gang war here Sunday morning in the OTR entertainment bar district. Nine shot, no fatalities. I have long said that reclaiming this previously ghetto area will be great until the bullets start flying.

@George-K said in "Awake": @Horace “After eight straight weeks of no sleep, Corke’s mental faculties were quickly fading. This cognitive decline was matched in speed by the rapid deterioration of his body. So compromised were his motor skills that even coordinated walking became difficult. One evening Corke was to conduct a school orchestral performance. It took several painful (though heroic) minutes for him to complete the short walk through the orchestra and climb atop the conductor’s rostrum, all cane-assisted. As Corke approached the six-month mark of no sleep, he was bedridden and approaching death. Despite his young age, Corke’s neurological condition resembled that of an elderly individual in the end stages of dementia. He could not bathe or clothe himself. Hallucinations and delusions were rife. His ability to generate language was all but gone, and he was resigned to communicating through rudimentary head movements and rare inarticulate utterances whenever he could muster the energy. Several more months of no sleep and Corke’s body and mental faculties shut down completely. Soon after turning forty-two years old, Michael Corke died of a rare, genetically inherited disorder called fatal familial insomnia (FFI).” Excerpt From Why We Sleep Matthew Walker This material may be protected by copyright. Wow!!

@Klaus said in New laptop design …: @George-K said in New laptop design …: A lot of people loved it, but, apparently, not enough for them to continue the idea to the current iterations of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. Hater here. The reason why the concept doesn't make sense: You cannot use it "blind". You have to move your hands away from the keyboard and change the direction of where you look. It's not an effective method of communication. Interesting. Makes sense. I have a Surface laptop and it’s great, but never use the touch screen. I do disconnect the display at times which is nice (it becomes a tablet, that I use with touchscreen), but I have an iPad I use if I plan to be in tablet mode for a while.

@Klaus said in Remember that crazy trail in Spain?: It's not as dangerous as it looks. You are on the rope the whole time. Put your index finger and thumb against each other. Now, squeeze them together so tight that it hurts. Now, relax them, just so that it stops hurting. That's how much the "pucker factor" would be reduced by having a rope attached.
