“Cry havoc and let slip the DOGE of war!”

Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

Kids can’t read, but hey, they know their Gender Unicorn!

On the serious side? It’s not the loss of educational skills… My kid had the second semester of his Junior year and most of his Senior year. The Senior year was always a bit of a lark anyway. It was when I was a Senior 30 years ago, and it is today…

The first reason the numbers are down is because you have A LOT. If students that never would have been accepted due to their college board scores have that requirement waived…

The article says that there are fewer enrolled students, but that runs counter to my experience. Virginia Tech, CNU, and Pitt had record numbers of applications and record numbers of new students in 2020 and 2021 due to the schools waiving SAT and College Boards. Now I can see those students not really being prepared and batting above their league but not because of failures of education their senior year…

The other elephant in the room is the emotional immaturity. I have spoken in this before. Peers in my son’s age group are having emotional breakdowns at frightening levels. I know of one bright and conscientious kid, an Eagle Scout, that would camp out in the roughest conditions, would catch a fish, gut it, cook it on a stick and eat it, then he would go and dig a latrine for afterward… This kid flipped during campus open house because of people/germs/viruses. He actually developed a mild chemical burn from sanitizers…

But they know how to wear a mask and socially distance properly.

        Important life skills.
