Rumors of Cancer Surgery

I don't know what to make of this, so take it for what it's worth.
The NY Post is (so far) the only source I can find.
Putin to undergo cancer surgery, transfer power to ex-FSB chief
Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to undergo cancer surgery and temporarily hand over power to a hardline former federal police chief, according to a new report.
Putin will transfer control of Russia’s government to Nikolai Patrushev, head of the Russian federal police’s Security Council, while he is incapacitated during and after the procedure, according to a video from the mysterious Telegram channel “General SVR” on Saturday.
The channel — which is purportedly run by a former Russian Foreign Intelligence Service lieutenant general known by the pseudonym “Viktor Mikhailovich” — reported that Putin has been told by doctors that he must undergo an operation.
The anticipated surgery and recovery are expected to incapacitate Putin for “a short time,” according to the unconfirmed report.
“Putin is unlikely to agree to hand over power for a longer period of time,” the narrator of the video states, adding that the control of the country will likely be in Patrushev’s hands for no more than two to three days.
“I will say that this is the worst option,” the narrator adds. “Patrushev is an outright villain. He is no better than Vladimir Putin. Moreover, he is a more cunning, and I would say, more insidious person than Vladimir Putin. If he comes to power, Russians’ problems will only multiply.”
“Viktor Mikhailovich” ominously hinted that he and his allies “will make certain efforts so this does not happen, and I hope we will succeed.”
The video follows reporting from Russian investigative outlet The Project, which — in a sizeable report on the strongman’s vigor — claimed he has been seen by a cancer doctor 35 times in recent years. Putin has become so paranoid about his health, the outlet claimed, he has even turned to unconventional, and barbaric, therapies.
Putin is said to bathe in the blood extracted from deer antlers, which are hacked off while they are growing and still full of fresh blood, the outlet said. The sickening “antler baths” are an alternative therapy in the Altai region of Russia, which borders Khazakstan and Mongolia.
Believers say the baths improve the cardiovascular system and rejuvenate the skin, The Project explained.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
I admit, I LOLd
That reminds me of Irish leader Eamon de Valera's message of condolence to the German ambassador following the sudden death of Adolf Hitler.

I was reading this same piece at the same time you were, George.
There are now other headers on the Google page, but they appear to be copycats of yours.
Does anyone know more about this Patrushev?

I saw it yesterday. Don’t know if it’s true.
Patrushev is a former KGB hood and protege of Putin’s going back many years. Like Putin he believes in conspiracy theories about the West and fairy tales championing Russian exceptionalism in the world.

@Renauda Swell. So if he succeeds Putin in the future, can we regard it as more or less a lateral move?

And, how will ever know if it is?
A "proof of life" picture would be the only way to verify that it's false - show me a photo with a current newspaper and I'll believe that you're OK.
However, there are precious few photos of the asshole, and dates and metadata can be altered.
I'd also say photoshop, but they're not very good at that, I gather.

Putin Treated for Cancer in April, U.S. Intelligence Report Says
Vladimir Putin's health is a subject of intense conversation inside the Biden administration after the intelligence community produced its fourth comprehensive assessment at the end of May. The classified U.S. report says Putin seems to have re-emerged after undergoing treatment in April for advanced cancer, three U.S. intelligence leaders who have read the reports tell Newsweek.
The assessments also confirm that there was an assassination attempt on Putin's life in March, the officials say.
The high-ranking officials, who represent three separate intelligence agencies, are concerned that Putin is increasingly paranoid about his hold on power, a status that makes for a rocky and unpredictable course in Ukraine. But it is one, they say, that also makes the prospects of nuclear war less likely.
"Putin's grip is strong but no longer absolute," says one of the senior intelligence officers with direct access to the reports. "The jockeying inside the Kremlin has never been more intense during his rule, everyone sensing that the end is near."
All three officials—one from the office of the Director of National Intelligence, one a retired Air Force senior officer, and one from the Defense Intelligence Agency—caution that the Russian leader's isolation makes it more difficult for U.S. intelligence to precisely assess Putin's status and health.
"What we know is that there is an iceberg out there, albeit one covered in fog," says the DNI leader, who communicated with Newsweek via email and requested anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.
"One source of our best intelligence, which is contact with outsiders, largely dried up as a result of the Ukraine war," says the DIA senior official. "Putin has had few meetings with foreign leaders," the official says, cutting off the insights that can sometimes be gained in face-to-face encounters. "Putin's isolation has thus increased levels of speculation."
"We need to be mindful of the influence of wishful thinking," cautions the retired Air Force leader. "We learned—or didn't learn—that lesson the hard way with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein."

I have read stories that Putin is suffering from thyroid cancer. From what MIL tells us, cancer rumours abound in Russia as well. This is the first article though linking cancer and surgery to a Western intelligence report. I will continue to treat it as hearsay until something more specific compels me to think otherwise.
In any case Putin’s days are probably numbered as President:

Yes, that is why I linked the article. There is another thread here talking about the fact that Putin always travels with his personal physician, who is a specialist in diseases of the thyroid.
If true, it couldn’t happen to a nicer fellow, right?

Thyroid cancer is normally quite treatable, especially if caught early. Given Putin’s supposed tendency towards fitness and health, I would be surprised to learn that a cancer would not be detected at an early stage. However my spouse tells me there is rare and very aggressive thyroid cancer that will kill you in four months time. I doubt that Putin’s suffers from that, as he seems to be alive and still speaking three months or more into the war.

@bachophile certainly knows much more about this than I do. Papillary carcinoma is the most common, and the most treatable. I have two family members who, at a young age were diagnosed with papillary carcinoma of the thyroid. Both had total thyroidectomies. One was treated with RAI, and now, 15 years later, they are fine.
Other types are more aggessive follicular, medullary are a smaller percentage. Anaplastic thyroid Ca is very aggressive and deadly. Median survival is on the order of 3-6 months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hands are starting to look black on top, said a former British army chief who doubled down on claims that the leader is receiving injections to battle serious illness.
Lord Richard Dannatt highlighted the sign that Putin is getting injections in a discussion about leaked Kremlin emails allegedly confirming that the 70-year-old warmongering leader has Parkinson’s disease and pancreatic cancer.
Recent photos also appeared to show signs of numerous IV marks on Putin’s hands, which he often covers up at official engagements.
“Keen observers now are noticing that his hands are looking pretty black on top, which is a sign of injections going in when other parts of the body can’t take injections,” Dannett told Sky News, according to The Sun, which first revealed the leaked emails.

@George-K What does that mean that "other parts of the body can't take injections"? Does that mean that the viens do not work on the arms (for example)?

@George-K I sincerely doubt he is pancreatic cancer.
And I think this is just rumor mongering, wishful thinking, whatever. And yes what George wrote about thyroid cancer er is entirely correct and yes I also sincerely doubt he has anaplastic thyroid cancer. Which is actually probably one of the most horrible diagnoses a person can get.
