A few forum members are going to need to clean their keyboards and monitors (and not because of scotch)
This is almost as arousing as those pictures of Hillary wearing orange.

States make all kinds of rules about ballot access.
For voters or candidates?
You should read up on the clause. I think it’s vague and unworkable. SCOTUS needs to kill it outright.
I did read it. You're right, it is vague. The language is also convoluted and confusing.

That’s seems sufficiently uninformed to have been written by turley. Was it?
Turley
The Colorado Supreme Court has issued an unsigned opinion disqualifying Trump from the ballot: "The sum of these parts is this: President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three; because he is disqualified."
This ends a string of losses for advocates of this dangerous novel theory. They finally found a court that would embrace what the court admits is a case of "first impression." My first impression remains that same. The court is dead wrong in my view.
It is striking that the court relies on Schenck v. U.S., where the Court upheld the denial of core free speech rights of a socialist opposing a war. The opinion of the Colorado Supreme Court is so sweeping that it would allow for tit-for-tat removals of candidates from ballots
The opinion is remarkable in how the four justices adopted the most sweeping interpretations to get over each barrier. The result is lack of a limiting principle. I view the opinion as strikingly anti-democratic in what it now allows states to do in blue and red states alike.

Well some good came of it then.
Just kidding- obviously this is ridiculous and should be overturned

What does Colorado want to be? Oregon East?

Does Colorado have jurisdiction over federal elections?
I believe there are no federal elections.
Each State has its own process to choose electors.
Article II of the Constitution
Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors, equal to the whole Number of Senators and Representatives to which the State may be entitled in the Congress: but no Senator or Representative, or Person holding an Office of Trust or Profit under the United States, shall be appointed an Elector.

For the sake of the Republican Party (such a good opportunity to bring in fresh energy, a unifier, perhaps one that can attract the power of the female or Latino votes that’ll have long term impacts on future elections), as well as for the sake of the country to not deal with another Trump vs Biden decision (and Trump election loss denial again…), I am very hopeful states find legal ways to keep Trump off the ballot. Figured it might be handed to them easily with criminal case outcomes, but at least CO is giving it the old college try!
Did Trump inspire the insurrection? Obviously. Did he participate in it? Nope. Insurrection is different from his election denial and lying and desires to keep the results from being certified by Congress.

I quite like the idea of an asshole registry. A bit like the sexual offenders register, but for assholes. It would be made publicly accessible and searchable, and would be very useful if you were thinking of buying a house or moving jobs. They'd still allow people on the registry to run for Congress, the Presidency and what-have-you, but they'd be forced to legibly display "Registered Asshole" on all their campaign literature.

Ok, who is your Republican nominee? Besides Trump?
Whoever it is, tell them to not even bother to campaign.
Trump may lose the general. Anybody else will be annihilated. That Trump core support would say fuck you and go watch football or something else ...

If he wins isn't he essentially going to be a lame duck after about two years?
Do we want to watch the pathetic indignity of him heading a campaign to have the two-term limit over-turned? Damn right we do!

Maybe. But elections are elections. If hypothetically Trump is out of the picture by early 2024, and the decision is Biden vs Haley (my preferred) or DeSantis, I think they would fare well. Haley is refreshing... conservative without offensive, and DeSantis is strong but awkward... both poll well against Biden and imagine Biden in a debate these days... he cane barely shuffle his right leg when he's walking to the next ice cream shop. No joke, watch him walk.
Personally, I would love Haley or Christie, but I know Christie is a (kitchen) cabinet guy at this point.

Here’s a thought… Maybe it wasn’t an actual insurrection at all… Hell, most of the charges gild for January 6th are unlawful parading. Ooohhh, scary.

Another candidate losing the general is preferring in my mind than Trump winning.

A good chunk of them would vote RFK Jr.
Maybe in your neck of the woods. Down here, I don't see Trump as a candidate, I see him as a movement.

A bowel movement. Trump’s bully boys are far worse than Bernie Bros.
