    In no country different from the US anyone would ever associate me with anything "left". If I'd have to label myself I'd say classical liberal and conservative. Over here I'd be classified as far right in the current political climate.

    Acfually, I'd say Larry and I both would be classified as positively revolutionists...In 1776.

    But yes, I would peg you as classical liberal...Which is pretty conservative in America...

      For fun, I decided to see the politics composition of this forum board. I looked at all posters with 25 or more posts and ranked them into 4 categories. There were 35 people.

      Right
      Center Right
      Center Left
      Left

      The percents were
      R = 14
      CR = 43
      CL = 34
      L = 9

      Below is how I see the people. Anybody disagree? 🙂

      I would put myself at CR as well, mostly because of a few libertarian positions and because I support single payer Health Care. Almost everything else I am down right Republican.

            Yeah, great call.

            TG, what if you gave everyone a number: 0 being most liberal, 50 centrist, 100 being most conservative?

            Please love yourself.

              Aqua, did you mean good - better - best?
              Guess I'm reading too much into it, being mostly perfect and all.

              BTW - based on one of your interesting posts earlier:
              Is there a term for a sentence which begins with a word, and ends with the same word? For example, "Obvious to those that know the distinction, that it is all completely obvious."
              Or, is that just bad grammar?

                  • What do you guys think?

                      Thanks! Epanalepsis. Epanalepsis. Need to remember that. I can imagine the shocked stupid look on peoples' faces when I casually remark on their use of an epanalepsis.

                      I can imagine the mumbling, "he's getting closer and closer to the middle of the bell curve!" What a compliment that would be!

                              Be fun (although impractical unless Klaus is up for more web scraping) to compare this to total words shared. QI's not the most prolific so I can see how he'd be hard to rank.

                                All right, here is my ranking:

                                Haha love it! Seems about right to me (at least FOR me).

                                  I'm to the left of the right, and to the right of the center right. This is the true middle, which makes sense, since I am the most objective one.

                                  Education is extremely important.

                                      I think QI and I come in at pretty similar points. Of course, I also thought I would come in a little to the left of Mik.

                                      Of course, it also depends on the issue, how serious that individual takes the issue, and how important the observer seems the issue and their own stance.

                                        Aqua, did you mean good - better - best?

                                        Nahh, arbitrary. I knew I'd be called on it, though.

                                        And Epanalepsis is a repetition of a beginning phrase at the end of a line or sentence. One of the most well-known examples is Robert Frost's "Mending Wall": "To each the boulders that have fallen to each."

                                        Epanalepsis. Type it 100 times.
                                        Epanalepsis. . .

                                        Epanalepsis overuse is widely disparaged by linguistic elites as a sign of insufferable snobbery amongst British introverts, Harvard graduates, hipsters, and other practitioners of epanalepsis overuse.
