Are those the Crown Jewels she's wearing, I wonder? Nah, never mind. What else would they be?

https://www.etymonline.com/word/assassin 1530s (in Anglo-Latin from mid-13c.), via medieval French and Italian Assissini, Assassini, from Arabic hashīshīn (12c.), an Arabic nickname, variously explained, for the Nizari Ismaili sect in the Middle East during the Crusades, plural of hashishiyy, from the source of hashish (q.v.). They were a fanatical Muslim sect in the mountains of Lebanon at the time of the Crusades, under leadership of the "Old Man of the Mountains" (which translates Arabic shaik-al-jibal, name applied to Hasan ibu-al-Sabbah). In Western European minds 12c.-13c. they had a reputation for murdering opposing leaders after intoxicating themselves by eating hashish, but there is no evidence that the medieval Ismailis used hashish. The plural suffix -in was mistaken in Europe for part of the word (compare Bedouin). Middle English had the word as hassais (mid-14c.), from Old French hassasis, assasis, which is from the Arabic word.

@George-K said in Painting the screen: @Jolly said in Painting the screen: About toddlers...They make firescreens that are one piece and lay flat. It can be a very simple job to place a clip or something that would snug them up and not allow a child to pull them off. Besides, as somebody who heats with wood, I can tell you that kids will shy away from a hot stove (you have to make sure they can't stumble into the front or side). Over the years, I don't think I've had but one of them burn a finger (just a touch burn, not bad) and after that, they avoided the stove like a cat avoids bath water. That's right. In our house we had a wood-burning fireplace (outside air fed) that put out about 70-80K BTU. It heated the entire downstairs, and with ceiling fans, it saved a lot on gas. In that house, I had heating bills >$500/month more times than I care to remember. The kids never touched it, other than to note that it was hot. Now, G2 stays respectfully away. Of course, that might also be because there's a cat lying in front of it. A very large cat?

Yeah, but GM and Ford are betting the house that EV is the total wave of the future. Who in the hell runs these companies?

Post of the day. What a bizarre name to give your daughter. They named their son post of the year. They always did like him better.

I never even heard of "sons" and "daughters" days until this week. What the actual hell? Anyway, here's another. [image: 1664455163805-309383643_180368657849429_6363405842638957562_n.jpg]

@Klaus said in Hey George: https://www.orient-express.com/la-dolce-vita/ Nice. No prices listed on the website - at least none that I could find. "Reservations: Opening Soon." That photo is a bit deceptive. A US superliner is 3.1 meters wide, and I'd assume European trains are similar. Allowing a corridor (to the left) of 1 meter's width, you're down to 2.1 meters across the space that the photo shows. It's a lot narrower than it looks. On US trains, the bedroom's bed is positioned 90 degrees to travel direction, IOW across the car. There's enough room for a 6 foot person to sleep in it, and a very narrow (8" closet) at the foot. From the website, it looks like this is one of those "excursion" things, where the goal is travel by night, then tour by the day. I'm not much into "touring," but the accommodations look wonderful. There is a similar concept in Canada - the Rocky Mountaineer. "Train by Day, Hotel by Night." In the Canadian Rockies, you want to be awake on the train! There are any number of private railcar owners who hook up onto Amtrak's train that provide a similar service - total luxury for your trip. The costs for sleeper are roughly double what you'd pay on Amtrak. I'm not sure if I want to pay twice the price for better meals and prettier surroundings.
