Pelicot sentenced to 20 years

If you live in France, or listen to podcasts, this story is almost hard to fathom.
Warning... read on and it discusses sexual assault.
An older french couple in their 60s and early 70s, who had been dating (later married) since high school.... the wife had been lately experiencing medical issues, including black outs. The husband was found trying to take "up skirt" videos of women at a store, which led the police to raid his phone and computer, which led them to find 20,000 videos/pictures of at least 50 people raping his wife while she was passed out. Yes, the blackouts were the husband drugging her and he coordinated this. She of course didn't know any of this until the police told her and showed her the evidence. Normally in rape trials the victim remains anonymous for obvious reasons, but she decided to make herself public, the crimes public, and the 50+ rapists public. The husband was just sentenced to 20 years, he denies nothing.

Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot, whose ex-husband recruited dozens of strangers online to sexually assault and rape her while drugged, arrived in court Monday, October 6, for an appeal trial triggered by the bid of one man who said he "never intended" to rape her.
Fifty-one men, including her former husband Dominique Pelicot, were convicted after an initial months-long trial that ended in December 2024 and turned Pelicot into a global icon.
Husamettin Dogan, 44, is the only defendant to have filed an appeal and maintained it. "I never intended to do so," he said, when asked by the presiding judge whether he accepted the charge against him. "I am here because I never wanted to rape this lady, whom I respect," he added.Gisèle Pelicot arrived to applause at the court in the southern city of Nîmes, dressed in a pink jacket and with her son Florian – one of the three children she had with Dominique Pelicot – by her side. She warmly shook hands with her supporters, but did not make any statement.
Dogan, who suffers from arthritis and is not in custody, made a more discreet entrance. Hiding behind a cap, face mask and dark glasses, he walked up the court's steps, leaning on a walking stick, an AFP video journalist said.
