Several months later I was going through my credit card charges and I noticed I was still being charged. I called AT&T, and they said "oops, we see you did cancel, but we didn't process the payment cancelation part. We'll get right on that, thank you for letting us know."
On a vaguely related note, yesterday I got a bill from Foxborough waste management for ($103) - i.e. they owe me a hundred bucks.
There was also a late payment line item of $3.00, and a request that I pay as soon as possible to avoid suspension of my trash service.
