@Doctor-Phibes said in What kinda grill ya got?: @Jolly said in What kinda grill ya got?: BTW, you need three guns to hunt with. You need a big game rifle, a shotgun and a .22 rifle. That covers all bases. Are you right-handed or left-handed? Probably one of those. There are 7 managers in the group I work for. In 20 years, only one has never been asked to manage one of the labs, which are filled with explosive gases and dangerous voltages. Guess which one. Ideally, You want the same action on all three guns, but bolt action shotguns are crappy. Being the British chap you are, a nice Turkish O/U would work. Rifle: Tikka Lite https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/15170/tikka+t3+jrtxe320+t3x+lite+bolt+.30-06+springfield+22.4+3+1 The stainless is a bit nicer, but pricier. Perhaps the best shooting out of the box rifle made. I chose the ought-six because the ammo is available at any mom and pop country store and I'd hunt anything short of brown bear with it. Cons? No three position safety and a round less capacity. Need to top it with a decent scope. I like Zeiss and Nikon, but I'm a fan of this company: https://www.opticsplanet.com/meopta-optika5-2-10x42mm-riflescope.html?_iv_parent-minimum-magnification=2-x&_iv_parent-maximum-magnification=10-x&_iv_code=OZ-RS-OP5R2X42-1032567 Meopta is a Czech company that made stuff for Zeiss for years, Good glass and at one time, howlingly cheap. Still affordable, but good quality. 2x10 covers about anything or anywhere you're going to hunt. 22LR: https://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/Default.aspx?item=02301&zipcode=71360 That's a CZ457 LUX. I like iron on a 22 and you can add a scope as you wish. I also like the older Marlins from 25 years ago or so...I've got a Marlin bolt with a bit of trigger work that will shoot 1" at 100 yards. The CZ does have a hogback stock (that's a European thing) which you may or may not like. Shotgun? Lot of stuff out of stock, because most of the affordable doubles are made in Turkey. CZ, Weatherby, Mossberg...I think all are Turkish guns now. Browning Citori's are made by Miroku in Japan. Ruger still makes the Red Label in America. Probably the best of the affordable doubles are the Turkish Tristars. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/tristar-trinity-over-under-shotgun If you don't mind a semi-auto and you aren't going to be shooting much low brass stuff, this is a damn good gun that flies under the radar: https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/franchi-affinity-3-semi-auto-shotgun-in-truetimber-drt-camo The Franchi Affinity series features barrels made by Benelli and an inertia action similar to Benelli for hundreds less. They point well and follow-up is faster than stink. They make those in a variety of finishes. Or...Buy a pump. Browning BPS, Mossberg 500, Benelli Nova. The Remington 870 would normally be on this list, but I don't know about the current quality of the Ruger guns. Older ones were great.

@LuFins-Dad said in Elon Musk = David Duke: It started in the Twitter thread re: Elon-Duke. So far people have posted headlines regarding how white supremacy is being embraced by blacks, Latinos, and Asians… White Supremacists are a pretty diverse group…. No more clear proof that the left has turned the word "white" into a synonym for "evil". You don't have to be white to be white, you only have to be evil. This is pop culture politics, embraced by millions.

Let me tell you about jungle culture...Note the two black dudes beating up on one guy. That's why people are scared of groups of young black men, because they tend to attack in multiples. Which is why, you avoid conflict with them, but if the ball goes up, you hurt the nearest one as bad as you can, as fast as you can. Kick him in the balls, break his knee cap, destroy his eardrum or try to shove his nose into his brain. Then go after the second one like a screaming madman.

@George-K said in Hey George: @Aqua-Letifer said in Hey George: Everything he mentioned about Australia was part of my mandatory "international student guidance" weekend. I'm sure. Also, everything he said about docs also true, LOL. We had huntsmans in our house sometimes. Yeah? Whoa. They're not venomous, are they? Some are, and they can fuck you up but I don't think they're life-threatening. I learned to check my shoes always before putting them on, never have food out that you're not actively protecting (indoors doesn't matter) and take real fast showers.

@Horace said in Oh oh...here comes a new "privilege".: or expects society to compensate for it. I'd say it already does. I can't think of a better example than influencer marketing. (Pre-COVID, anyway. The game's gotten weird out there. I hope to the point that it completely deflates but hey, wishful thinking.) Good-looking young people who have the right uniform and speak American English make great influencers. For every ugly guy out there netting 1 follower for his cooking advice, influencers are raking in 1,000 for yet another hackneyed reel shilling their avocado bullshit. And so the latter amass a following without trying very hard. Which meant that traditionally, companies would reach out to them for product deals. Because bigger audience. Except the quality of that bigger audience is garbage. It's mostly thirsty sleazes and wannabe influencers themselves. Ugly guy, for his smaller audience, converts a shitload higher percentage into buyers because his ugliness self-screens for unengaged followers. If you're listening to him, it's not because you like what he's wearing. It's because you're into cooking. A lot of micro-influencers are normal-looking moms, retired grandpas or immigrants who know how to do things others are interested in. They're starting to get a lot more traction as companies develop a rudimentary education in social media statistics. Whether you're pretty or ugly, it makes no difference. Either way it'll make some things easier, other things harder. But yeah I still agree, the social justice bandwagon is inevitably comin' to town.

@Mik said in Surgeon General's Advisory on Social Media and Youth Mental Health: Yep. The very last thing you want is a kid with too much time on their hands. But there's a just enough free range that is healthy. We were completely free range. Our parents had no idea if we were within five miles of home. Same. It's a fine line today, though. Where we live, it's normal to see kids out and about on their own, but just up the road, it's not unlikely to have the cops called, maybe a social worker visit, who the hell knows. Nextdoor posts alone can practically draw you a Karen Line of Demarkation.
