BTW, you need three guns to hunt with. You need a big game rifle, a shotgun and a .22 rifle. That covers all bases.
Are you right-handed or left-handed?
Probably one of those.
There are 7 managers in the group I work for. In 20 years, only one has never been asked to manage one of the labs, which are filled with explosive gases and dangerous voltages.
Guess which one.
Ideally, You want the same action on all three guns, but bolt action shotguns are crappy. Being the British chap you are, a nice Turkish O/U would work.
Rifle:
Tikka Lite

The stainless is a bit nicer, but pricier. Perhaps the best shooting out of the box rifle made. I chose the ought-six because the ammo is available at any mom and pop country store and I'd hunt anything short of brown bear with it. Cons? No three position safety and a round less capacity. Need to top it with a decent scope.
I like Zeiss and Nikon, but I'm a fan of this company:

Meopta is a Czech company that made stuff for Zeiss for years, Good glass and at one time, howlingly cheap. Still affordable, but good quality. 2x10 covers about anything or anywhere you're going to hunt.
22LR:

That's a CZ457 LUX. I like iron on a 22 and you can add a scope as you wish. I also like the older Marlins from 25 years ago or so...I've got a Marlin bolt with a bit of trigger work that will shoot 1" at 100 yards. The CZ does have a hogback stock (that's a European thing) which you may or may not like.
Shotgun? Lot of stuff out of stock, because most of the affordable doubles are made in Turkey. CZ, Weatherby, Mossberg...I think all are Turkish guns now. Browning Citori's are made by Miroku in Japan. Ruger still makes the Red Label in America. Probably the best of the affordable doubles are the Turkish Tristars.

If you don't mind a semi-auto and you aren't going to be shooting much low brass stuff, this is a damn good gun that flies under the radar:

The Franchi Affinity series features barrels made by Benelli and an inertia action similar to Benelli for hundreds less. They point well and follow-up is faster than stink. They make those in a variety of finishes.
Or...Buy a pump. Browning BPS, Mossberg 500, Benelli Nova. The Remington 870 would normally be on this list, but I don't know about the current quality of the Ruger guns. Older ones were great.
