@Mik said in "Gun-Free" zone: "If we're just nice to everyone, everyone will be nice to us.". That situation does not exist anywhere in nature. There are always predators and prey. Yep. Want to all but guarantee you get PTSD? No better mentality to have.

Good article. It will be interesting to see 100 years from now. There is a certain % of the population that either needs to or wants to live in a city and the advantages that a city can offer. If may be that there will just be a shift of location. For example, maybe SF will decrease but a current mid-size city will turn into the next big city. I dont think that big cities will disappear however.

Looks like a dispute on the executive branch's interpretation of the law. The court can resolve the matter on interpretation. The legislature can enact amendments to clarify the law. This should sort itself out before long.

From the article: [TSMC] is trying to fast-track visas for 500 Taiwanese workers. Sure, get them here. These are skilled workers that can advance the USA's semiconductor manufacturing, a national priority. Not only we want to bring them here, we also want to keep them here for the long haul (legal permanent residency, citizenship). They have already been highly educated and well trained, we're getting a good deal.

Possibly, but until the motion to remove is favorably adjudicated in federal court the state proceedings would continue. So all will be arraigned as planned even if ultimately some move to federal.

Observation (at least from my corner of the world): The script has flipped. The most racist people, taken as a whole, are blacks. I think the victim role has been taught to most of them since birth and too many of them see everything through that lens, skewing perception into racism.

#1 Preseason QB, his PFF rating was slightly above Mahomes breakout year. They are the only two starting QBs to ever get a complete preseason rating over 90. Oh, the rookie edge rusher from Wisconsin who is our #3 behind former DPOY TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith (14.5 sacks last season, pro bowl) was the highest ranked EDGE rusher with a 30% win rate, and some of that was against starters… The Swiss Army H-Back Connor Heyward was the highest rated TE. I get that preseason means nothing in the standings or even talent, necessarily, but it does mean something in terms of preparation, growth, and command of their personal situations at that moment in time. With what these guys have shown, there’s not a team in the league that they should be scared of. I’ve not been this excited to start a season in over a decade or more. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-preseason-pff-team-of-the-preseason-player-awards-2023

They answer that in paragraph 7. He was invited by butthurt NH politicians that lost their first-in-the-nation status.

We're going to have more than one. This will be a Cat 2, maybe a Cat 3. BTW, Katrina made Louisiana landfall on 8/29, as a Cat 4. Billion Dollar Betsy (Cat 4) was on 9/9. Camille (Cat 5) was on 8/17. Rita (Cat 3) was on 9/24. If (big IF) we get a nice depression in the right part of the Gulf, without a significant wind shear, it's katy bar the door. It's the right time of the year for a big storm and the Gulf can provide the energy.

Well, it's Australia. According to @Aqua-Letifer , pretty much everything is trying to kill you. I've seen a couple of cases of cerebral Echinococcosis. I hate parasitic diseases.

Here's an older guy fishing a three and half foot, 7 hoop net: [image: BillNelson2_300.jpg] Note the winch. Normally, you pull that size by hand. Looks to me like he's just finished his pull and had the net by the tail. You normally pull the front of the net first, but you can do a tail pull (it's easier to lose fish through the flues that way, but you do what you gotta do). I can't tell exactly what he's caught, but it looks like buffalo.

Guggenheim Securities warned in a research note that given the size of the company — with a market capitalization of about $1.5 billion — and the possible liabilities if power lines started the fires, “it’s hard for us to imagine if the company will emerge from this tragic incident in its current form.” I bet some Maui residents will still want to use electricity.
