@89th said in Hannity vs Ramaswamy: I had the same thoughts George. Or hopefully, maybe Hannity knows that Nikki would be much better for the long term impact on the GOP than another Trump sycophant. That and the fact that in the current atmosphere of global unpleasantness, the USA cannot afford yet another four years of the loose cannon, Trump, or one of his apprentices in the oval office. The GOP race has much better and winnable options to offer the nation.

@Doctor-Phibes said in Hay Jolly! I miss Trump: Why is he the only one without orange juice? I noticed that too. Insert joke about the orange man already having enough orange.

The U.S. and Qatari governments have agreed to block Iran from accessing any of the $6 billion it gained access to as part of a prisoner swap deal between the Biden administration and Tehran last month, The money was transferred last month from a South Korean bank to a bank in Qatar. Iran could access the money only through a series of steps, including oversight by the Treasury Department, https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/us-qatar-agree-not-release-iran-6-billion-prisoner-swap-rcna120135

@jon-nyc said in Why Russia Embraces Tucker Carlson: @Horace said in Why Russia Embraces Tucker Carlson: @jon-nyc said in Why Russia Embraces Tucker Carlson: I guess I see intellectuals as a more or less distinct class from activists and mere pundits like the names you mention. But maybe Loury and McWhorter should be so considered. I wouldn't be too precious with the word. People like Ezra Klein and Jonah Goldberg and VDH are public intellectuals. Yeah but the “public” in front of it makes them a bit more pundit-y. In practice, I take it to mean that they think and communicate serious, well-informed thoughts about cultural issues. As opposed to people who think and communicate serious, well-informed thoughts about things with no cultural valence. The word "public" distinguishes those two sorts.

I am not sure why it was, but the article for me, was really difficult to read. Did not seem to "flow" at all.

@LuFins-Dad said in Man of the Year!: [image: 65297811496676529781149668.jpg] It is time once again to honor one man who has gone above and beyond to advance the cause of men and raise the bar for what other men seek to accomplish. The Babylon Bee has chosen Dylan Mulvaney to receive the 2023 Man of the Year award. Already proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the Chinese spy app TikTok, Mulvaney has gone on to make his mark as a celebrity spokesman powerful enough to utterly destroy the reputations of big-name consumer brands. None of them were more notable than Bud Light, the one-time top-selling beer, which hired Mulvaney as its pitchman last spring only to suffer the most precipitous financial freefall in the history of the beer industry. Once thought to be an invincible brand in the beverage world, Bud Light was brought to its knees by the man — the legend — that is Dylan Mulvaney.. From social media to talk show interviews to appearances in designer gowns at the Met Gala, Dylan Mulvaney has gone places few men would ever dare to go, showing the type of courage normally only reserved for the most masculine heroes. While some may scoff at his stubborn refusal to live life as the man he was created to be, Mulvaney's true courage comes from taking the initiative to live within a world of his own imagination and then stubbornly stay there with a will and determination that surpasses most other men. The Babylon Bee congratulates Dylan Mulvaney on having his biggest year yet. Much like Bud Light, Mulvaney can only go up from here. You're the man, Dylan!! https://babylonbee.com/news/dylan-mulvaney-is-the-babylon-bees-new-man-of-the-year Well, you wouldn't want him going down...

@jodi said in Is plaid coming back?: Totally agree, hate the too tight suits. Especially the pants. I was at a meeting this week, and this bloke showed up wearing a jacket and too tight pants that were also a little short. I rather suspect he wasn't wearing socks. It turns out he was French. Another failure of multiculturalism.

Payton and Belichick are from the Parcels coaching tree. There will be discipline in the clubhouse. Payton can be an ass, of course.

Catchy, if corny. My cousin has a small mill and a kiln (probably could dry a couple of thousand feet). I've got a heckuva burl on an oak I'm tempted to cut. If it doesn't have too many voids, might make some real pretty stuff...

@Jolly said in Carlson's Take on Israel: @Doctor-Phibes said in Carlson's Take on Israel: @Jolly said in Carlson's Take on Israel: Admittedly, I haven't watched it, but Tucker is an American First type. Take his comments in light of that. How did that work out last time? As with most things, depends. Without Pearl Harbor, I'm not sure at what point America would have joined into WW2. There has been a strong aversion to foreign wars in a significant percentage of the population since the days of George Washington. George didn't have nearly the international companies, trade routes and communications we do. Today's Americans can set up an international business in hours. And let's not forget the military technology capable of leveling whole countries or an army of one attacking our power grid from their mom's basement across the water. Progress makes isolationism ridiculous.

I am not surprise with this at all. Maybe one of our economic experts here can explain, but I always shake my head when I hear about a new casino and that it will generate USD$XXXXMM. Hmmm, if people were not spending that money at the casino, I dont think they would just be putting it in their pillows. They would be spending it at other places. If someone is going to spend USD$500 in a month on entertainment, and if the casino is built, they spend USD$300 there, most (not everyone, but most) will not increase their entertainment budget by USD$300/month. They would just cut back on entertainment somewhere else.
