For sure he left his mark, and I had a bitter respect for him as a Purdue student in the 80s. But he could definitely take it too far and get out of hand.

I hope they got together with Le Soupe, an organization I have spoken with about volunteering to handle their IT.

I just looked it up: Russell was quoting William James. William James describes a man who got the experience from laughing-gas; whenever he was under its influence, he knew the secret of the universe, but when he came to, he had forgotten it. At last, with immense effort, he wrote down the secret before the vision had faded. When completely recovered, he rushed to see what he had written. It was: "A smell of petroleum prevails throughout. Where we lived in Ontario cottage country a surprising number of people were killed every year snowmobiling drunk. They'd wipe out because you couldn't see the wooden construction on the lake under the snow. I worked with a guy who used to be hired to dive to pick up snowmobiles that went into the lake after people misjudged the thickness of the ice. They used to dare each other to jump over the melted bit, with predictable results.

https://www.businessinsider.com/nyc-exterminator-dead-rat-bodies-carbon-monoxide-2023-10 Matt Deodato, an exterminator fighting the rat battle in New York told Insider that he collapses the burrows that rats reside in after killing them with carbon monoxide. Although, in the past, Deodato said he relied on companies to haul away the dead pests — or dear friends, to those who care — leaving them there has been beneficial, in his opinion.

My guess would be that the child died and one of their shoes was hidden as a way to remember them or to ensure that their spirit always knew where their home was.

@Axtremus said in Cop pulls over 2 year old driver: Gotta envy that Barney Fife small town vibe where the most newsworthy law enforcement thing that comes out of the town is this little traffic stop incident. Indeed.

@Mik said in Denver Police's approach to reducing gun violence: if they have the resources Indeed. Too lazy to look it up, but I wonder what the staffing situation in Denver is these days, compared to before the death of St. George (Floyd). I can guarantee that in Chicago, the staffing resources are horrible.
