Easy to be an armchair general and critique things retroactively - but this sort of thing is to be expected with the ineffectiveness of American foreign policy since the turn of the century.

@George-K said in Cheapo keyboard: I'm not looking for a durable instrument. This is an experiment to see if it piques his interest. If it does, we can move to something more durable. For $50, I think it's worth the experiment. 28 Casio options $50 - $500 https://www.casio.com/us/electronic-musical-instruments/portable-keyboards.filter.K84vKnGqtC0oykxO9ckv98hMzwAA/

Ignoring technology, and just looking at some big events: WW1 was one generation away from WW2. The American civil war was roughly 2 generations from WW1. The Napoleonic wars were roughly 2 generations before that. The American Insurrection was roughly 1 generation before that. I've ignored the Cultural Revolution, Spanish Inquisition, Russian Revolution and my own particular favourite - the invention of bebop, but you could put those in as necessary. I remain unconvinced by Smokin' Joe's timeline. I do know one thing that hasn't changed. People telling me since I left school that I'll soon have more leisure time. I'm fully expecting that rug to be pulled from under me once again in a few years as I hit retirement age.

I saw TK Mattingly was speak at the Air & Space museum. As you might expect his presentation was well done, obviously he was highly intelligent and competent. RIP Astronaut Mattingly

I visited 2. The one in Singapore was in an office block, and not their own building. I walked in unannounced and there were three guys just sitting around smoking. LOL

He's reading into it what he personally likes. Which is fine—that's how you're supposed to watch a movie. But those guys in real life aren't exactly hardcore libertarians. Pushing that political perspective wasn't and never has been on their agenda. His lit theory needs a lot of work. It's an American 80s blockbuster. Those movies were all about scrappy upstarts getting away with flipping the board because they were good at what they did. We used to love the everloving shit out of that archetype. It's the story of America itself. So it's American, not Libertarian.

@bachophile still has to be hard to see that in one so young. I'd imagine the situation dredges up every emotion one could think of. Complicated indeed.

Who knows but there’s room for negotiation there. I was afraid they wouldn’t bring it up at all.

I'm lazy and didn't click the link, but if they taxed unrealized cap gains, do they send you a check for unrealized cap losses?

Sad, neither country wants millions of people they probably can't feed or employ. I'd wonder if it would be a better use of "human resources" to let undocumented folks work for their citizenship... a win-win. They'd have labor for projects (infrastructure, farming) and documented/taxable revenue sources. On one hand if I were to sneak into Italy and one day be caught, I would expect to be deported. On the other hand, if you married (and had kids) in the new country and lived there for 30 years, it's really hard to accept that.

Since I only read MSN-republished news articles reposted here by @Mik and @Jolly, presumably @Mik and @Jolly do some curation on their own before reposting here, so hopefully that will prevent most of MSN's problems from spilling over to TNCR.

@jon-nyc said in Drug Prices: Don’t you choose your part D plan based on comparing formularies to the prescriptions you have? It’s that time of year. This drug (metaxalone) is not on the formulary. https://rxmedicareplans.com/pdf/CY/Value_Plus_Formulary.pdf

@Jolly said in Over 100,000,000 sold: If the batteries are worth anything, how long before that entire vending machine is in the back of an old pickup? It is on a pretty busy street and I not sure there is the same crime culture here in Thailand. Next time I walk by, I will see what type of anti-stealing mechanisms there are.
