In the late 60s and early 70s snap on bubble visors covering the face were common among small displacement motorcyclists and moto-crossers. A friend of mine who had a street version Kawasaki 90 sported one until one day a yellow jacket wasp managed to get in underneath while he was riding. All ended well, but from then on he dispensed with the visor and wore goggles. The bubble visor ended up behind him on the road or someone’s front lawn. He never bothered to check or look for the wasp. Glad it worked well for you also, jon.

Judging from the abstract, the algorithm would actually be slower than Dijkstra's if the graph is not sparse. But still a cool result. Also, it was published at a reputable venue and survived peer review, it's not just a random arxiv paper.

@jon-nyc said in What are you listening to - Podcast Edition?: Check your PMs. That was very unkind. I'm pretty sure John D'Oh can't even get an erection, never mind shag one of those things.

@Axtremus said in Why has no DoJ employee leaked any of the Epstein files?: @Horace said in Why has no DoJ employee leaked any of the Epstein files?: Depending on the veracity one gives Elon, we can already say there has been a leak of parts of the Epstein files. Just not one with any there there. Since Elon has never been a DoJ employee, whether Elon leaked anything has no bearing on the question on why has no DoJ employee leaked any of the Epstein files. It Elon has seen the Epstein files, or been told of them regarding specifics about Trump, we have a leak. Thus my conditionalizing on Elon’s veracity.

Ideological bubbles and echo chambers are probably more biased and monothematic than your typical political response from even the most sycophantic version of ChatGPT.

I’ll try again. I just said that. (Re the Vermeer) I don’t remember which paintings they vandalized but some of the artists were grand masters.

I got four out of five correct, but I was a bit lucky I think. I'd like to hear somebody do the same with saxophone. I suspect it would be harder to make an AI sax sound authentic, unless it was Kenny G.

I think this thread was just a test to see who's sick enough to open it, given the headline.

@xenon said in Cryptocurrencies and Private Market Assets in 401(k): Doesn't the almost make private equity public equity? Still not tradable though. And will look misleadingly stable in someone’s 401k when in reality the underlying value will be all over the place. (Cliff Asness calls it ‘volatility laundering’)

Oh well, at least we can take pride in having trained our replacement. The dinosaurs didn't train us to take over.

I think that might be second. Biggest instance of hypocrisy is the extent to which they rolled out these affirmative action / DEI policies, ostensibly to help disadvantaged minorities, only to fill most of the slots with kids of rich Nigerians, etc. Once on Loury’s show he and McWhorter both estimated that over half the black kids on campus were foreign born.
