Through a mix of personal experiences, I propose the following: Say person X got into a collision with a car at an intersection, right at a red light. That's all you know. Here's my very scientific analysis of which proportion of GenPop will blame person X as a matter of course, based on who person X is: pedestrian: 65% cyclist: 95% biker: 95% skateboarder: HANG THAT MOTHERFUCKER!

@89th said in Bill Maher, Ben Shapiro, and Malcolm Nance: I like Ben Shapiro a lot, for the most part. Really sharp, great academic memory, and quick to make clear unambiguous points. It was quite the contrast to the other guy who was making bizarre comments that were not relevant or even remotely accurate, and quite immature too. The other guy is the perfect vacuous sound bite parrot. I wonder how many times he's deployed that zinger about how his great great grandfather didn't escape slavery and fight in the civil war just so some white guy could dare talk about <anything to do with race>. The race rhetoric of the left is shamelessly idea-free. All virtue, no substance, and no competition. Just mic-dropping and slam dunking because one person has one skin color and the other person doesn't.

@george-k said in Biles bails at the Olympics: @lufins-dad said in Biles bails at the Olympics: she was making multiple mistakes before this and was frankly doing poorly. I wasn't aware of this. Perhaps her choice to drop out from that competition was the right thing for the team. That's the opposite of "taking one for the team," right? So I just read this thread because I watch the Olympics on DVR (delay) and didn't want any spoilers. Anyway, Biles went into the Olympics as the GOAT (as she has been for the last 8 years). But during the practice routines and even qualifying (and even the first event of the actual Team Finals right before she pulled out) she was really missing her landings. If she didn't drop out, USA probably wouldn't have even made the podium IMO, so I thought she did the right thing. She had backup/alternates for a reason (and they really stepped up). For example, Jordan Chiles was given about 20 seconds notice to get ready to do the uneven bars instead of Simon, and Chiles did a great job. Anyway... I heard the rumors going into watching this, but ultimately I thought Simon did the right thing for the team by letting someone else compete instead of her. It's not like she dropped out and therefore the team got all zeros in her place. It also allowed some of her teammates who always got 2nd place in the individual events to win gold. Kinda sucks to always come in 2nd place when you're competing with the GOAT. From a competition perspective, did she choke during these olympics? Yes... but did she also do the right thing for her team and teammates? Yes.

I would definitely go EV next time, if I could be assured the same reliability as my IC car has now. Everyone's jumping on the bandwagon, and (cough) Audi has some interesting (and pricey) cars in the pipeline. But... The infrastructure ain't there yet. First of all, I need to get 220 power into the basement garage of the condo. I don't doubt that our small HOA would approve it, but it sounds like a really pricey proposition. Secondly, for a day trip to, say, visit D2 up in Milwaukee, it would be cutting it very close on charge. It's 105 miles each way, and she only has 110V power. Neither I nor Mrs. George would abide sitting at a Supercharger for an hour while we top off the tank. Beyond increased range, EVs have to develop a rapid-charging battery. That's in the works, I understand. Go hydrogen!

My grandmother had her pressure cooker explode on her. She suffered terrible burns.

@george-k Awww, poor kitty! I hope she gets a new home soon, but it won't be mine. Hubby is okay with the froggos, but he's definitely not interested in any kitties or dogs.

Not quite. Some drugs like Tamiflu are very effective at reducing the severity of certain types of flu, if given at the right time, early during infection.

She didn't win in the individual events. She won in the team competition - a little easier as she had some really strong people on her team - and there aren't that many teams competing - not exactly like winning the 5K.
