@mark the thought of some kind of security system/camera occurred to me as well. But, suppose you see see and record the pirate. Then what? Report to the police? Good luck with followup. My solution is to have stuff delivered to our condo - we see her several times a week.

You had company or just family? Sounds good but the Dino nuggets are a dead giveaway for kids.

@Copper said in Howdy: @Jolly said in Howdy: Goldsmith and Williams are pretty good. Alan Menken and the Sherman Brothers did some nice work for Disney. Yes, I know it's not for everyone. But you could probably sing along with a lot of it. Got to meet Mr Menken. My favorite of his was Galavant…

I'm surprised this hasn't been happening more often. The US military has been testing GPS interference here for 10+ years. When I was flying we received regular notices when they were doing this.

@Axtremus said in Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for the Creation of Fine Arts: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/02/technology/ai-artificial-intelligence-artists.html Artist Jason Allen used AI tool to create a piece of digital painting that won a state art competition. My take: I don’t think AI created the art. The artist just used a certain piece of AI-enabled software (and whatever that’s in the AI’s learned model at the time) to create a painting that passes (for most humans, in the Turing sense) as art. In any case, I like the end product, and I congratulate the artist on the win. Of course you would.

Jolly's right on this one. Of all our rights, voting should be the most zealously guarded such that no one could believe in large scale corruption.

I am now tempted to go to lecture, at Q&A remind her of that, drop the mike, and walk out. I would pay money to see that. Not a lot of money, but money.

@Aqua-Letifer said in The most Jollyesque video of all time: @Jolly said in The most Jollyesque video of all time: So, that's where I think our friend may be wrong. He'd make a good Greek Orthodox, though. Well, a little background on this guy: he's a wrangler. Not a cowboy who dabbles in the off-season, he's full-time. So he travels. All the time, everywhere. Which means he doesn't go to the same church every day. His view of denominations is very different. I can't speak to the theology. But from a practical standpoint of how humans work, I think he's got the right idea. We're thinking, social creatures. We need a handful of buckets to be filled to live a fulfilling life. This is a sloppily defined list but I hope it gets my idea across. It's roughly something like: family and friends. Some kind of in-person community. an honest way to provide for ourselves and our family. ("Honest" meaning that the work you do is somehow constructive.) a way to apply ourselves with our head and hands. This could be working on old cars, gardening, whatever. spiritual growth, and some way to participate in our past, and cultural history and observances. The fewer those buckets are filled, the more unfulfilled we're going to be. In other words, I don't know about its theological grounding, but in practice I think his basic concept is irrefutably correct. It's theologically grounded. He mentions the Bible fairly often in his porch talks. Check out the books on his shelves. I think he is classically self-educated. I understand his concept and agree with quite a bit of self-worth being tied to the nature of work, family and societal relationships. I'm just saying I disagree with his trichotomist thinking on body, soul and spirit.
