The "luxury beliefs" idea is a brilliant way to think about high status leftist culture.

Speaking of Chicago, I bet those fired museum volunteers were chock full of these sorts of beliefs. Probably still are.

  • Fun Facts About MRE's

    Various Opinions:

"The taste-good factor of MREs is inversely proportional to how hungry you are which itself is a function of how long you’ve been in the field."

"I’ve eaten more cold MRE’s than hot, by a factor of 3. The army has destroyed my sense of taste. It’s just fuel. (It also destroyed my love of architecture and landscape. It’s just terrain.)"

"One man’s crap is another man’s feast. We always run a ‘goodie box’. A collection of stuff that guys don’t want. After a day, I can live off the goodie box.
One of the bonding experiences is eating. Guys are always giving up their pudding for chocolate bars, or peaches for sliced apples (Who am I kidding? NOBODY gives up peaches.)"

"A MRE is freaking huge, and typically on missions you only get to use what you physically carry with you. When packing for your mission, you want to make sure all the items you need to bring with you will actually fit in your pack; you don't need your food taking up a lot of space.

"What you do is strip the MRE down and take out all the useless packaging, utensils and accesories including the chemical heater. You won't be using that heater on a mission, it produces visible steam and that is a big no-no if you don't want to be seen.

"Meals Ready to Eat are pretty sweet for missions because you can stick the small vacuum sealed baggies of food in mag pouches or pockets, rip the corner open and suck it down while you are on the move."

"Do soldiers eat MREs every day?
Oh god no! If it was only MREs we would all never take a shit again. MREs have a tendency to constipate the bowels like nothing else."

"Some are better than others. The good ones are about equivalent to other types/brands of camping food. I intentionally planned some MRE meals for my family on a camping trip, nobody complained. They even had some nice features like a little candy and a tiny bottle of Tabasco sauce."

I despise email. It's all but ruined my job over the last 20 years or so. We used to communicate by telephone (primarily) and where writing was needed, by letter or fax. Writing a fax took actual effort, so you didn't end up with gazillions of them every day, and you weren't expected to reply within 10 minutes.

One of the good things about the pandemic for me has been the push towards video calls rather than those awful extended email correspondences. The problem is they don't really work when lots of people are involved, but then again, not much does.

One of these days you'll be driving down the road and your car will stop running. A voice will come from your dash saying you have driven your allotted miles for the month. It won't matter much though, because you ant qualify to work, and you lack the proper credentials to buy food.

I'm pretty sure my job is secure. I do the voice-overs in all the new electric vehicles. They tell me they do so love a sophisticated British accent, and apparently they can't tell the difference between one and what I have.

I should have pointed out that what I described will be noticed mostly by those who haven't submitted to their overlords. For those who go through life with their heads in the sand it will happen so slowly they wont even notice a change. They'll think everything is just fine, and probably even think other silly things like (bahaha...)British accents (snort) sound (..,,bwahaha....) "sophisticated"...... (BAHAHA.....)

And to think some people say that Americans struggle to understand irony....

Not right enough. The truly right thing to do is to eliminate the "debt ceiling" entirely.

The truly right thing to do would be to reduce spending to the point they didn't reach the ceiling in the first place.

The FAA made it clear that the airline was lying as soon as this happened.

You can give the airline some credit for lying in a way that they could kinda defend.

They said the airplanes and employees were in the wrong places. Which from their viewpoint was probably true.

That's very unfair. After all, he didn't look that great when he was young.

Did I say WHICH years? Hmmm? No I didn't, now did I.

Why not General Jacob Devers? His abilities as a general and innovative military leader are all but forgotten. Unjustly partly because his relationship with Ike was not always cordial. As a general though, the Germans took him very seriously.

Is there enough drama there to make a good movie?

There was plenty of drama between him and Ike not to mention Mark Clark. Devers was no slouch as a tactician and could be every bit as diplomatic as Ike when it came to dealing with personalities and egos.

I reckon a good screenplay and director could make it a first class movie.
