@Mik said in On the way downtown.: Bit too much Christmas cheer, I imagine. My guess is texting and not seeing their light change to red. Also, George…weird to hear your voice!

"Gluttony has long been a despised habit within almost all cultures for a reason - It is a sign of a lack of discipline as well as a precursor to societal decline, and, it is a sure trigger for an early demise." Well, thanks for the explanation, Tyler. I was certainly wondering about that.

@Catseye3 said in A nod to the shoplifter: I have shoplifted. On my first separation from my husband I had no vacuum cleaner and my carpet got really groady and I had no means to clean it and ZERO money so I stole a scrub brush from a drugstore that cost 76 cents -- or would have if I'd paid for it. Also, same era, I stole a can of catfood because my poor cat would've gone hungry and, again, I had no money. I experienced guilt on these occasions, but not a whole lot. Fuck 'em, they had more money that I did and I was already stressed enough, thank you very much. Knew a guy who was on the parish SWAT team. He was deployed to New Orleans right after Katrina...Right after, as in they were rescuing people in boats and arresting looters. They caught a bunch of looters coming out of a local store business supply store and they arrested several of them. One guy had a laptop another had a desktop computer, etc. One woman had a case of water. He asked her where she lived and was anybody else at home. He then dispatched another boat to pick up the perps, while he took her in his boat to get the rest of her family. He told her to keep the water.

@Horace said in Sapiosexual: Sapiosexuals are described as people who are physically, emotionally, romantically, and relationally attracted by intelligence. They find intelligence to be the most important and erotic trait, and value it more than a potential partner's physical appearance, status, emotional connection, and even personality. People often ask me, what are some of the drawbacks of being a public intellectual? Well, one of them is dealing with all the sapiosexual women throwing themselves at you. It takes a very strong psyche not to begin seeing women as objects. Thankfully, public intellectuals have such a strong psyche. We all have our cross to bear.

It's 17 degrees right now - that's -8.3 for our Celsius friends. We're supposed to get about a foot of snow starting later today/tomorrow. Lots of Christmas travel is being postponed. D2 will not arrive Friday, but Saturday, weather permitting. Everyone else is local, so... Amtrak has cancelled the Empire Builder for 3 days. It would suck to have made travel plans on the train...
