@jon-nyc said in We need nuclear: China did it by adding more coal-fired electricity-generating capacity per year than the U.K. has in total. By the way, those Brits feeling the pain of net zero probably find this ironic, to say the least.

His Trump voice is decent. Not as good as that dude from Long Island, but good.

Probably wasn't a Trump supporter in 2016, but I guess she is now. Add another Magat to the fold.

Last I checked, the "mainstream scientific community" was still all but certain of a natural origin. This stuff from the government is sidelined as non-experts bloviating.

I freaking love climbing. I'm not fast, but it's just a hell of a lot of fun.

He looks a little like Harry Ellis in Die Hard. [image: 1737901130740-46bde45c-97e9-4a8e-bc1d-1664ebc776e2-image.png]

I never understood how folks can actually "not like" certain musicians , though their musical ability is near god like. Hell give me more physical antics while playing I say. Show their human side. The hate for Lang Lang years ago, it was a real thing, and I never understood why. There must be some unwritten rules of decorum when playing in public I guess. Maybe some see it as showing off, I never felt that though. Gould is quirky yes, but my god, watch and listen, giminy christmas, this guy is so good, any piano player watching him immediately becomes a little bit better at what they are doing. For reals...

That is good advice. The sign you see pilots hang on the new co-pilot’s side says, Don’t touch anything.

@NobodySock So, I pose the question to all, does a deep state of influence exist in this country and if so, where can it be found? On some unidentified barge in NY Harbour?

@Jolly said in The Empowered Employee: @Aqua-Letifer said in The Empowered Employee: These days, my job situation is nothing short of a real hoot. My wife has a nominally paying job as a med assistant while she's in nursing school. The pay is crap but it keeps us in the black. Thankfully, her other credits transferred so while she's starting clinicals this year, she only has to do the clinicals; no extra classes alongside. But no doubt about it, she's going to lose her job in 2 months. She already lost it last week. She let her managers know her school schedule as she had done the past 3 semesters. To which they said hey, that's great. I'll expect your resignation by the end of the week. Which, what the fuck. They acted like this was just some kind of standard procedure. So she went home and we had a good long talk about what the hell we were going to do as we weren't prepared for that turn of events. Then one of the docs called. She's only doc in the place that does mohs surgery and it's who my wife's assigned to over there. She wanted to know "just what in the hell is going on." The next morning, my wife was asked to put in writing what her school schedule was just so "expectations could be met." No other talk about resigning; it was like it never happened. But, since that's in writing, and she's going to miss even more work once the clinical part of clinicals kicks in, yeah, I don't think the docs are going to be able to save her next time. As for me, I work with a bunch of very affable sociopaths who write me very nice performance reviews while doing absolutely everything they can to replace me and everyone else with AI. I don't know how much time I can hold out. I have no idea where anything stands, only that there are talks and the powers that be are battling it out. If it happens, then like all the others, I'll get an email I won't receive because IT will shut off my logins before HR sends the paperwork. After her first semester of clinicals, she might can find part-time work as an ED tech, nurse tech, scribe or as a ward clerk. Oh yes, right you are. She's gotten great help from others in her program and the instructors; everyone's been on the same page about helping people work through their schooling. She'll be fine. Not so sure about myself.

Ferris Bueller would fit right in with this administration. Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people. You're still here? It's over!

@George-K said in LASIK: @jon-nyc said in LASIK: That’s a woman who really doesn’t like glasses. Yeah, she hated glasses. After years of contact lenses, she became dificult to fit for lenses (I don't know why). Opthamologist recommended PRK. Hurt like a sonofabitch for about a week. But, years later, she's happy she had it done. Shape of the cornea. Some people are extremely hard to fit
