He went to the Student Union and he found another County Property Tax bill for his car… [image: 1681788691197-b7872e5f-ecfb-47d6-8785-d68717e2957d.png] Maryland's bluer and doesn't have a car tax. I think what you meant was, "welcome to Virginia." No, Maryland just has a higher sales tax and property tax. Income tax is the same, but on average somebody living in Gaithersburg pays $1K more in state and local taxes than somebody living in Sterling, VA… Still no car tax.

@George-K said in “Page intentionally left blank”: @LuFins-Dad said in “Page intentionally left blank”: we still have a lot of people that will need the fill printed document Mrs. George has a vague idea of what a QR code is - no idea of what to do when she sees one. She still thinks her phone is ... a phone. Mental-health-wise, that's probably the better way to think about it.

I’m not in favor of businesses being compelled to transact against their will for whatever reason. One of the biggest reasons I went independent was the ability to say no to business I did not think was good for me or good for the client, or even if I did not like the people involved. I gave up six figure pieces of businesses because I did not think what they wanted was either possible or a good idea. I don’t think these cases are really any different.

@Jolly said in Roads are racist, don'tcha know.: @LuFins-Dad said in Roads are racist, don'tcha know.: Confusing race and economics again… Simple fact. A disproportionate percentage of African Americans, Hispanics, and such ARE more likely to die in a vehicular accident. However… Poorer people drive older cars. There are huge safety technologies in newer cars that didn’t exist in older cars. Blind spot sensors. Front collision warnings, backup cameras, etc… Better airbags, seatbelts, and even steering systems. Poorer people are driving in vehicles in higher states of disrepair. This will lead to more traffic accidents. Lower income families typically drink and use drugs at a higher rates than middle class families. I’d bet that would translate into more impaired driving. You forgot the elephant in the room. Louisiana has the worst drivers in the country. Everything you said above is true, but you forgot that poor people tend to be less intelligent. Stupid people make stupid mistakes. Dumb and poor is rampant down here... That’s the unicorn in the room, not the elephant.

My suspicion, though, is that illegal gambling still continues. They probably give better odds and are never taxed.

@taiwan_girl As I understand it, they were regional gangsters, mafiosi. The politician had the reputation of being something of a Robin Hood figure among locals; not unlike Al Capone who also ran soup kitchens for the poor in addition to his primary business of bootlegging and other criminal activities.

@taiwan_girl for more serious snowfalls, a rotary "plow" is used. Here's the Union Pacific clearing snow through Donner Pass. Link to video
