@Friday said in I love to X-Files: Back in the day, my not-yet-husband and I had this routine every Friday. Buy booze. Eat dinner. Watch X-Files. Drive 6 hours to Mammoth Mountain. Drink booze. Sleep. Ski for 2 days. Drive back home. We did that for 2 seasons, from February to July. That is an all-around badass routine. Yeah, I've seen nothing post-Mulder and don't intend to. And a lot of the episodes are hit-and-miss but that's what makes them kinda fun now, watching them again. My uncle and grandmother were into the show, too, so for holidays when we all got together, whoever was around would watch on the Fridays we got into town.

@brenda said in 48 Inches: I first noticed there's nothing next to the chest. Boris just jumped up four feet in the air to get there. Yikes! That picture is from the dining room of our house in 2003. In the condo, it's positioned differently. It's possible to leap up there from the dining room table, but that's a jump too - distance wise, it's about 2 feet, and then up.

Funny how the body language of the pianists contrasts. I mean look at Schiff, and compare with Trifonov. Evgeny Kissin, Yuja Wang, Seong Jin Cho, Daniil Trifonov, Mikhail Pletnev, Andras Schiff, Sergei Babayan, Denis Kozhukhin The whole thing. Link to video

@Horace said in Infectious disease before and after vaccines: Now you'll have Rainman to deal with. I don't think he's going to take kindly to anybody picking on Ax. Damn straight! As far as I'm concerned, Ax proverbially wrote the book on morons, you guys aren't even close to being able to hypermorontathize at his level. Don't worry, Ax. I'm always here for you buddy!

@Jolly said in Hallucinogens: @Aqua-Letifer said in Hallucinogens: @Jolly said in Hallucinogens: I think virtual education is not as good as classroom education, given equivalently talented teachers, especially in some subject matter. I think a totally democratic education is impossible, for multiple reasons. Surely it can support traditional education, though, right? Support? Yes. Many of the high schools are going to go A Class/B Class this fall. A is M/W, B is T/Th. That means about 10-12 students in the classroom per day. Out of classroom days are virtual. I think that can work, because of the degree of personal interaction. I hope very hard, that teachers will assign reading and "enrichment" crap for the out of class days. I think in a lot of schools that use the hybrid, the "off" days will still be live, with the students not physically there still attending and seeing the teacher via a camera. Not as good as being there, but better than nothing.

@George-K said in Life insurance: @Jolly said in Life insurance: Life Insurance? Minimum 3x your yearly gross income. For how long? Term or whole-life? Until debt free and assets exist to allow the family to live life without worrying how the light bill gets paid. During my life, I've bought mostly term. Most of it will go away at 65, except for a small amount ( $50k) of bridge money.

@Doctor-Phibes said in Cognitive Test: @Loki said in Cognitive Test: @Doctor-Phibes said in Cognitive Test: Sure, I'm a buffoon, but at least I'm not a geriatric buffoon! Easiest thing for Biden to do is to do well on the cognitive test. Speaking of buffoonery, Biden already said he could beat the hell out of Trump. So we could just make it a duathalon. You chaps must be so proud. It's very much like an ancient jousting competition, where two rival groups pick their finest champions to represent them, and decide who is superior. Except, of course, in these more sophisticated times, rather than donning armour, sitting astride the finest warhorses and charging at one another, these two great representatives of the Land of the Free have to see if they can remember five words for twenty minutes. It's truly awe inspiring. Can’t we just get back to our President as Russian Agent getting golden showers? I too miss the days of rationality.

The Sheiks enjoyed ever-increasing season rankings, right up until 27-28, when they were first in the finals. Then, nothing. The team was disbanded. [image: 49b4ok.jpg]

I wonder what the social dynamics of the signatories were. If the signatures were public and the set of people asked to sign was also public, there must have been enormous pressure to sign.
