Craig Fugate, the FEMA director who coined that phrase ‘Waffle House Index’, started off as the emergency manager for Alachua County (Gainesville, FL) where my sister has spent her career. She remembers when his office was an old closet in a county building. Odd coincidences led to the very unlikely scenario of she and I having personal connections with two consecutive FEMA directors.

@Tom-K it helps that I know all these guys personally. The problem is I’m getting to an age where I’m the oldest one around and there’s are lots of young people that I don’t know. This guy I just picked up the phone and called and he said come in tomorrow.
