Leaks in the pipeline - Nord Stream 1 & 2

Today's lesson on how ignorant I am on the topic:
- Can they turn off the source of the gas?
- Is the natural gas liquified to go in the pipeline?
- How come these pipelines don't just explode every 5 seconds?
- How is natural gas even extracted (I presume it's in a gas state at the source below the rocks)?
- The world really needs to learn how to live without the finite fuels we have to dig up from under rocks. Let's go nuclear.

IM SURE THEY STILL DO WITH REMOTE WELLS THAT HAVE NO NEARBY PIPELINE INFRASTRUCTURE

I seriously wonder why Russia hasn't attacked other non-Russian gas pipelines (such as the ones from Norway). That would do real damage to the European energy market.

They still flare down here at isolated wells. It's really nice if the well is on your property and they'll let you use the gas.
Or, you can go out and steal some casing head...

That would trigger Article 5 of the NATO Alliance. You know what that means.
