    Kyle Rittenhouse Announces Initiative To Hold Corporate Media Accountable, Star Trek: Picard Actor Whoopi Goldberg On His List

    Link to video

    Tucker Carlson proceeded to ask Rittenhouse whether he’s planning on suing any particular news organisation. While the 18-year-old didn’t mention any major outlets, he did namedrop Star Trek: Picard actor and The View host Whoopi Goldberg and The Young Turks founder Cenk Uygur.

    “Well, right now, we’re looking at quite a few politicians, celebrities, athletes, Whoopi Goldberg’s on the list,” Rittenhouse told Carlson, explaining, “She called me a ‘murderer’ after I was acquitted by a jury of my peers. She went on to still say that.”

    “And there’s others,” Rittenhouse continued. “Don’t forget about Cenk from The Young Turks. He called me a murderer before the verdict, and continues to call me a murderer.”

      Everything I've read says that he has a steep hill to climb on this issue. In his case, he is supposedly a "public figure," and slander and liable laws are different.

        Still, a worthwhile conversation.

          @Mik absolutely.

          I fail to understand why he is a "public figure" in this case.

                The argument can be made that he was a defendant in a highly public murder case, elevating him to the role of public figure (much more so than Sandman), though, in my opinion, that's all the more reason why you need to be cautious. OJ is still referred to as "alleged"

                  I've always thought our slander and libel laws should revert back to an earlier and much more narrow definition.

                  I'm also in favor of not releasing an individual's name who is charged with a crime. That name can be released after trial or plea bargain.

                  People should be secure in themselves and their possessions. That includes their reputation.

                    I always thought that if you were not a public figure before being charged with any crime, then you should be considered a private person. But social media probably complicates all of that.

                      I find the whole "Public Figure" narrative to have been distorted beyond all recognition and it is now abused. I hate case law and judicial decisions based on legal precedent.

                          Like David Hogg, Kyle has worked hard to parlay his 15m of fame into something more, pretty actively seeking continued access to the spotlight.

                            But there should be a dividing line. At what point do they become famous, because there is no alternative? Hogg actively courted the spotlight when he was a nobody. Kyle was famous before he even knew how to spell spotlight.

                                        You think? I would think calling him a murderer prior to his acquittal wouldn’t meet the threshold of defamation.
