    Damn straight it’s about politics.

Vax stats depends on how much you trust the government.

How sick is that? All these people dying because they don’t trust the government.

    Fucked up world

Well, it's cultural. Culture is the fundamental thing rather than politics. THe draw of putting it all down to politics is that it's simpler and more fun to 'hate all Republicans' than it is to 'hate all evangelical white people'. The latter sounds a little mean actually. But hating Republicans is vogue, totally shame-free.

      Education is extremely important.

@horace what do you mean by cultural?

yes you can find ethnic disparities

yes you can find economic disparities

yes you can find educational disparities

but in the end, the defining polarization between vax or not seems to be political affiliation.

not a question of hating republicans. its just pointing out a vax demographic which i think is very sad.

The thinking is that political divisions in the U.S. are largely driven by culture now. So being republican is a proxy for culture.

As in politics is based less on policy nowadays than which cultural side you think candidates are on.

Maybe instead of shaming those who don't trust the government we should shame the government for being so inept and corrupt that they are no longer trusted.

I'm no expert on statistics or their implications, but this graph taken as a view from 30,000 feet, there does not seem to be enough difference intergroup to make that much of.

And I find the politics vs culture debate to be pointless.

i accept the fact there are people who dont trust government.

what i find hard to accept is using that as a reason not to get vaccinated.

                the government didn't invent vaccines.

@bachophile I don't think it's necessarily mistrust of government. It's a cultural signal to be anti-vax. Some people are getting vaxxed in secret so their family and friends don't know.

It's a similar phenomenon to virtue signaling.

I have never trusted the government, but I sure as heck wanted to get vaccinated.

The idea that the government has only become untrustworthy in the last few years is ridiculous. Just look at the stuff that went on in the past.

                    I was only joking

As far as irrational ideas people believe due to culture, I don't suspect vaccination hesitancy will be on the radar historically. None of this should be flabbergasting if you understand that humans believe what their culture tells them to believe. No fainting couch required at that observation. It is how humans operate.

Just like the left can't seem to understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration...

                          They conflate anti-mandate with anti-vax. The issue is not anti-vax. It's anti-mandate.

And until natural immunity is considered in the equation, it's not going to change.

I’m also anti mandate. I think one of the saddest things in the world is that people are not smart enough to figure out this is something you decide to do on your own. Even if the government said no mandates at all. All personal choice. I cannot for the life of me understand someone not doing it. At least now with data on millions.
