A cluster of 900 people infected with the Delta variant, they are symptomatic, and a whopping 74% of them are vaccinated.

How many vaccinated people died?

That's the $64 question.

And of these symptomatic people, how many are seriously ill?

I think the real harm issue is vaccinated people giving the virus to unvaccinated people. I don’t think unvaccinated people anticipated that.

No, because we keep using the word vaccine, and we think about it in the classical sense, whereas COVID vaccines are not nearly as effective as for instance, MMR.

Approximately three quarters (346; 74%) of cases occurred in fully vaccinated persons (those who had completed a 2-dose course of mRNA vaccine [Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna] or had received a single dose of Janssen [Johnson & Johnson] vaccine ≥14 days before exposure). Genomic sequencing of specimens from 133 patients identified the B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in 119 (89%) and the Delta AY.3 sublineage in one (1%). Overall, 274 (79%) vaccinated patients with breakthrough infection were symptomatic. Among five COVID-19 patients who were hospitalized, four were fully vaccinated; no deaths were reported. Real-time reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) cycle threshold (Ct) values in specimens from 127 vaccinated persons with breakthrough cases were similar to those from 84 persons who were unvaccinated, not fully vaccinated, or whose vaccination status was unknown (median = 22.77 and 21.54, respectively).

Ok so of the sample size, 1.5% were hospitalized and 0.0% die.

Now how do those numbers compare to unvaccinated with Delta?

That's still about 1 in 75 people. Good about the deaths, though.

I was recently told about an exceptional (high viral load) case with CT=16. When I asked what was normal he said “more like 21”. Granted that was informally off the top of his head.

”There’s a rush to get shots that correlates with delta’s rise and hospitalizations,” …
There are signs of people previously hesitant about getting vaccinated changing their minds as they see more people getting infected and even hospitalized due to the Delta variant.

We were going to be returning to the office in a month. Delta oughta be good for keeping us home for at least the rest of 2021.

I remember laughing at the conspiracy theorists who doubted the scientific authorities at that time. Lol what a bunch of maroons. Sociopaths with no empathy, too. Dumb, low empathy, ugly people - if there's one thing COVID has taught us, it's that they doubt science. Must be genetic.
Why can't they all just die already and leave us good people alone?
Where's my fainting couch?

He said that based on the evidence and trials at that point, all 3 had been effective in that regard.
Which was true.

You would think that a guy like Fauci would be smart enough to understand the science will, indeed, change.
To make pronouncements like that strikes me as being a little bit reckless.

It's political.
One doesn't dwell in the depths of The Swamp for as long as Fauci has, without acquiring a maximum amount of slime. He quit being a doctor a long time ago.
Time for him to retire.
